I can't figure out how to play with friends.
There used to be a host button that allowed me to host a server and invite friends over by giving them the IP, but that seems to no longer exist.

The only options are server browser, connect and singleplayer.

How can I invite friends over to play toogether? I'm pretty sure this was possible in the past.

Don't forget portforwarding and other crap like this (You can also use hamachi/evolve etc) to skip portforward

There is no option to start a server in the menu though.

Also, why would you need hamachi or portforwarding? Last time I played you could just use steamworks.

You need to make server manually :V

Wait, why was that changed? You used to be able to host from ingame.

Back when there was host option in unturned I had to hamachi/portforward anyway...
Maybe back then there was upnp [or whatever it is called] and I had it disabled.
No idea what do you mean by "steamworks"

Steamworks, you know, steam's built in network.

You used to be able to connect to unturned servers your friend's hosted via steam. It's how multiplayer works for the majority of games, like borderlands, terraria, portal 2ect.

Simply p2p? Peer to peer. (That;s how it is currently in terraria, no idea about border and portal because I didn't play those)

I don't remember p2p in unturned at all even with "host" option ;d Maybe something was broken on my side? As I said I had to portforward/hamachi back then.

Not exactly p2p, it used steam to connect you.

They removed this, no idea why. I didn't even bother to search for info about it :D [/quote]

That's odd, seems like a step backwards.

Thanks I guess.

Do you mean that you have joined throught steam friends? (or you have been invited by friends)

If yes, then this thing is in every steam game that has multi :D
Just enable chat with someone -> press arrow next to their nick -> if they are on multi then you have option "join" enabled ;d

If not, then totally no idea what you mean. Since you have given terraria as an example ;-;

Yes, that thing, unturned used to let you start a non-dedicate server from inside the game and invite your friends over.

That doesen't seem to work anymore.

When I invite someone over to terraria, I can just host directly from ingame and invite them.

I can't do that in unturned.

You can, but you need to join server first.
Any server, it doesn't have to be your server

Yes, that's my issue. I don't want to join some random's server and have the proggressed saved there while allowing other people to join and ♥♥♥♥ it up.

I wanted to start a private session and invite my friends over just for us. This was possible a year or so ago.

He is talking about this :V

captain as I said you can just simply create your own server :D
google will explain it with details ;d I remember only that you need shortcut and copy paste stuff which google tells you.

Then when you connect you do "127.0.0.1" ip -> special IP which always connects to server which is on your ip, go to friends tab on steam and invite friends
exactly

Yes, seems that's the only option now.

My question is why was the simple host and connect removed in the first place?

I have just found another thread where all my posts were removed o-o
The feature which allows to skip portforwarding or hamachi is paid, nelsoon probably decided that it's not worth to pay for it or something similar
if he kept "host" button in game then people would cry everywhere that their friends can't join their servers they hosted throught game...

just go to guide sections of unturned and host dedicated server -> no need to revive 3 years old thread
