Prevent zombies from attacking base?
I was going to build a small house along the highway (a bit away from the big cities) on Driftless and wanted to know if there was a command or setting I could do where zombies would only attack me in their sight, not the house I was building. The only reason I am asking this is because some maps spawn zombies in forests (though where i'm building, west of Milwaukee along the highway, there doesn't seem to be any) and I am still skeptical about a zombie spawning there in the night and ruining my house.

The way the zombies' AI is set up prevents this. I'm not exactly sure, but this is a rough layout of the zombies' behaviour:

1) Their ultimate goal is to kill you
2) They do anything they can to achieve this
3) If there is a clear path to you, they take this path
4) If there is something blocking said path, ex. a vehicle or a barricade, they destroy said obstacle and continue (can be abused to make zombies destroy other players' bases)

So yea, unless you somehow figure out a way to change game files to change above behaviour, there is no in-game command/setting you can do this.

You can, however, place safezone radiators to prevent zombie spawns.

So you said "clear path to you", meaning i'd have to be in the general area?

They'd have to notice you first, meaning you make a sound within their 'hearing range' or they see you.

So it's safe to say that if I haven't been attacked for an entire day in the same location, they probably won't spawn there ever?

Just stay at said location for an entire in-game day and see if zombies spawn or not. If they don't, they don't spawn there.

Mind that zombies don't spawn in the exact same locations. It looks more like a certain amount of zombies spawn within a certain area and get randomly "sown out" there. You can test this when you spot a group of zombies; take note of their positions, travel back until the zombies are out of visual range and then reapproach. You'll see that their positions have changed, even the composition of the group could change (e.g. campsite with 7 campers and 3 fishermen once, 9 campers and 1 fisherman the next time on the same campsite).

Or you invest in a sentry or two indeed. Very worth it if used properly.

Don’t build places where zombies can spawn

You can build where they spawn if you can build a safe zone generator.

that's how i am able to thrive in what use to be a infested town.

Took me a while to get the materials but it was worth it.

Im gonna try to open the map in the editor, and see where the zombie spawners are.

you could just make one of those anti zombie beacons, might piss people off because it disables item spawns.
