Unturned
Theory: burning city was nuked
It isn't a surprise now that it would be possible for this city to have been nuked. Moscow almost was nuked, so why not say... Frankfurt? The radiation and constant burning makes it very likely that a nuclear missile was launched by the US, France, or the U.K. (Germany doesn't have nukes of its own) to try and help stop the plague from spreading.

EDIT: please stop telling me it was a spaceship. We all know this already. I made this about a week before Germany came out, so please stop with all the comments about how dumb I am for not reading the notes when it should be clear that this was made before Germany was released.

the bigboy on hiroshima nearly destroyed the entire city that bomb was about 4 kilotons of tnt modern nucleair weapons are arount 1-10 megatons of tnt so about 1000 times stronger they would have no problem leveling everything in a 20 mile radius and anything in 50 miles would have been severely damaged so the city would really just be a crater
it was leveled because most of japan back then was built of wood and paper and yes that is realistic, a nuke would destroy anything in it's path for about a 40 minute drive at 70mph then the radiation. Nukes are 5 times brighter than the sun and 10 times hotter, It would completley melt everything
I think the France had nuked the city because zombies where coming in France from germany

Japan was probably entirely industrialized by the 20th century.
They weren't samurai who lived in forts and fought on horseback.

If it was nuked then the hole of the germany map would be radioactive. It would be most like a napalm bomb as it could burn down a whole city and the surrounding area.
or, something like in russia with Silo 22. That was a nuclear missile which leaked it's radioactive contents over the entirety of the northern half of the map.
Okay, i have actually thought of this as well (the nuke scenario), and I have found it to be very unlikely, because when a nuke is dropped anywhere the bomb is detonated before it hits the ground, causing a half sphere of the contents flying towards the location, the sheer force of the explosion would cause around a 60 foot crater to a 300 foot crater, depending on height of detonation, and could very easily cause a city like this to be put into the current state we see, however, it would also not make the constant fire, there would be little to no burnables left, the explosion would vaporize those objects, and it would be impossible for ANYTHING to live there, zombie or not, the RAD levels would be through the roof because if it was bombed to stop the spread, we all know that the zombie virus was made in a lab and escaped, the bomb would have had ZERO precautions to stop from leveling the city, and quite possibly the map, and the RADS would have been left to "eradicate" the zombies. I think i may have been a Reactor that melted down and may have exploded, but i dont think it exploded, the reason this reactor melted down was because of the spread, it caused confusion and chaos, and ultimatley the meltdown. so that is the cause of the RADS in this location. the reason for the fire is that all the natural gas and oil and all the other flammbles had also caught fire in the chaos, because when they found out about the spread, people went into a riot kind of mode in this city, tearing it apart and becoming infected, one-by-one. That covers the RADS, the fire however, in the trailer we do not see any military presence in the town, leaving me to believe that this is a quarentine zone, with a heavy military prerimeter, that may have gotten irradiated and infected as well, so that would explain everything, how the rest of the map is not a crater, the lack of a crater we have seen thus far, and the fire and RADS.

But Hey, Thats Just A Theory, A Game Theory!

nukes accuttly MELT citys that are nearby so the crater could be away from it but the city still melted
Don't know where you go that information. I mean, sure, some materials might melt from the heat/radiation, but a lot of the materials would just be decimated or straight out vaporized by the blast itself. Cities aren't going to just melt like their made of clay. Humans, on the other hand...

if you would nuke one city in germany half or complete germany would be radioactiv ...
Well yeah, obviously. In the trailer, the zombies in the burned down city were spewing the deadly green toxic goo when they were killed.

Actually modern weapons of mass destruction would not have an issue with leveling a city.
That doesn't mean the city would be a huge crater. The city would be leveled, but some sturdier structures far enough away from the blast can stay standing somewhat. Modern weapons today couldn't take out Moscow in one shot, you need about ten
http://www.cnn.com/2016/10/26/europe/russia-nuclear-missile-satan-2/index.html
One of these could easily wipe out Moscow.
Uhhh a single Fab 5000 used by the russians ( 5.000kg bomb ) could level out a whole city, what you think a nuke can do to it? it woulndt just burn it would burn + level it out.

Edit ( Fab 5000 is a obsolete bomb fabricated btween 1942 - 48 by the soviet army + some communist countrys. )

Germany is also a coal producing nation, so maybe that caused it? I don't know but we do know zombies can survive high amounts of radiation (See: Silo 22)

But the main question athand is how that radiation got there. For me the two likely scenarios are the one I described and a nuclear plant meltdown.
Silo 22 dindt explode where you got that idea from?,what probably happened was that the rocket by being not used for long times got into a leak and then radiation cames out.

Only the stuff within about 5 miles of the blast. Outside of that, even if you were outside during the explosion, you would get painless 3rd degree burns (burned to the nerve, can't feel pain) and still possibly survive. It's likely the extreme heat caused what was left of the city to catch on fire.
That is very unlikely beacause most of the countrys when nuking a city nuke directly on the center so theres no possible survivors ( new soldiers )
