How to build down/underneath?
Hi I currently started building a base on the edge of a cliff and I'm trying to figure out how to build underneath my roof/floor while still keeping the house in tact. Like I understand I can stack pillars up but why not down?

Only possible way would be to use the Build Editor, but that's only if you're an admin on a server or on Singleplayer.

There is no way to do this.

You can if you have access to the admin editor on a server or single player, it's not possible to do this outside of the admin editor with structure elements. If you don't have access to the admin editor, you may try to ask and admin on the server you play on to try this for your structure, if they allow this. For admin concerns for this on their server, it could allow players to get an unfair advantage on a PVP server, but on most PVE server it won't cause much of an issue. For PVP, players can't shoot up through the ground to things above ground, but splash damage and grenades(but they are deflected by the ground a bit, they won't go far once they pass through the ground.), can pass through the ground from underneath.

This would work by flipping roof/floor/stair tiles upside down and placing pillars underneath, do this repeatedly, and you can build down. I was able to build a base at some -100y under the map doing this, it would take a while to build something down that far.

One other way to possibly build down is to build up and do a flipping of a structure to an upside down rotation. You'd do this with a multiselect in the editor with local set in the global/local button, and then by having one of the elements in the bottom of the structure you want to be flipped, then having the rest of the elements to be rotated selected. If the selection origon is on one of the bottom elements in a structure, then you can go into rotation mode and hit ctrl then drag on one of the vertical rotation rings until it's upside down. This way may be a bit more problematic to pull off properly, if it's not done correctly and/or if you have a lot of elements to rotate in the selection.

For moving elements to a location in the -y's, the only way to do that is to either use a vehicle and a plugin to teleport it under the map, or to use the admin editor and select the element you want to move and hit the use key at the place you want to move it to. Once it's placed, it can't be moved without using the use key move feature, otherwise it'll pop back up to 0y. Elements can't be moved to the -y's on the map in any other way in the editor.

The major downside to building to the negative -y's is that beds can't be used there, so you'd need a type of warp plugin to get there, so the -y's would be off limits to everyone but those that have access to commands to allow them to teleport to the -y's. Beds set underground in the positive y's will still work though.
