I guess they didn't get the memo that fans aren't exactly fans of them.
I can't say if they succeeded at this or not, because the game runs terribly on my computer right now, I hope good patches come soon.
But "painting the whole map purple" was the only thing that gave the repetitive mission structure some purpose... i cannot believe they did this...
I think it mostly depended on the quality of the side activities, but it seems this game revolves around it's combat system (which I love the look of and playing it so far), but it's not as much of a sandbox of activities.
Flippy described it best when he said it was an adventure platformer with a focus on combat rather than a sandbox.
