It's sorta a spiritual successor to Saints Row tho, set in the same universe and with some of the same characters (like Gat)

Same universe and same chars =/= same gameplay + gameplay elements.
This simply isn't a new Saints Row game.
I know, but the gameplay style looks like it would actually compliment co-op perfectly as opposed to just being an addition like it was in SR.

"... as opposed to just being an addition like it was in SR."

And we have the "Missing out when playing solo" part again.
Sure, you can simply build in some coop-aspects in every game, but I'm happy to have a 100% solo experience and don't have to worry about missing out content or gameplay elements.

? You wouldn't miss out when playing solo
If you want solo, it is just how it is
However, woth co-op as well, it would be good for people who want co-op, but won't affect anything for solo people

Yeah, but you said "as opposed to be an addition".
If it's just tacked on, sure, why not... but if they create new mechanics around it, it would be a different story.
If I play purely solo and a game has multiplayer content, I would pay for something I would never use.
If there isn't a multiplayer in any way or shape, all the money goes to the singleplayer-experience that the devs trying to focus on.

I'm not saying anything about new mechanics, what I said was "gameplay style looks like it would actually compliment co-op "
Meaning that it looks like co-op would really fit into the game well. (No alterations needed)

And yet... if multiplayer was added as you suggested, you'll have people here complaining "Multplayer feels like it was just tacked on! This sucks!"

You can't please everyone.

"All of the original Saints Row games..."
This isn't Saints Row.

And yes, games with coop-aspects give me sometimes the feel, I'm missing out something.
Just take "Earth Defense Force 4.1" for example.
I had I blast playing through this game solo... but I'll never see 100% content that way, cause there are Multiplayer-only missions and weapons where you need 2 players to use them.

"Monster Hunter" is a perfectly fine solo experience.
Playing the online part on the other hand, is much more difficult, since the monsters didn't scale and don't have less health when playing solo.
Yet, online is required to see everything this game has to offer.

"Borderlands"
Try beating a raid-boss solo.
It's doable, but as much as punching the walls of my home till they fall to dust.

In "Dark Souls", you can't get some items cause of the covenants if playing solo.

So, I wouldn't say there "excuse" is stupid.
I love playing a game that it's balanced in a way, that I don't have to worry beating it or missing out on something.
I wanna play something where I can reach and do everything without playing coop or pvp.

But then none of those are Volition games. The reason why people are getting so worked up about not having coop is because Volition is one of the few devs that do it right.

Just found out that this game wouldn't have co-op, and like many others here, it's 100% killed any motivation I had to buy this game.

...

Guess we'll be waiting until next year for Far-Cry 5.

Unless I'm mistaken the previous Far Cry games were not main story coop, only side missions were. Hoping 5 will change this, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

I wouldn't count "adding coop" as "doing it right".
The thing they are doing right is creating a game that feels like a game.
Just having fun while playing pure nonsense and bend the difficulty to your will.

You're right - tacking coop on at this point wouldn't be doing it right. That's the mistake most devs make when they add coop; it's an afterthought. I think the frustration stems from the fact that Volition didn't start out with making another full story coop game. In a way it's a shame, like a talented actor that always get typecast as a wizard or whatever... but sometimes you just wanna see an awesome wizard take on new stories in a familiar way.

No argument there... but then, I'm pretty sure the Saints games felt like games too...

I'm not sure if I'm getting your message correctly on this, but I'd tend to agree that multiplayer only games do tend to wear a bit thin because it's just the same thing over and over again without a lot of meaning behind it. Personally I've had more than enough TF2, and I'd rather play some good coop story games. I just hope that when Volition start on their next game, that they keep a seamless coop experience in mind from the start because the most fun I've ever had playing a game is in the Saints games doing coop story mode. If they don't want to do the coop thing anymore, that's cool too; I respect their right to make whatever they want to, but it would also be a shame to see an excellent wizard stop taking on wizard roles.

Just found out it wouldn't be multiplayer...removed from wishlist. No way i'll pay 70 bucks for a single player game. Multiplayer adds potentially dozens of hours of play on top of any single player campaign. The funny part is that i would have bought 2 copies for us to play side by side here.

So as stated before, no coop, no buy.

Interesting, what some people count as "funny".

Wow. Almost bought it assuming it would have some co-op, multi or local. Maybe if I see some gameplay I might change my mind on it, but as of now, I can wait.

Multiplayer might add hours of play if you're into multiplayer... and IF it's not repetitve nonsense. But I'm all for single player only, so no co-op, WILL buy.

It's not about adding hours of gameplay. It's about having a shared experience with friends. :pals::approve:
