And we have the "Missing out when playing solo" part again.
Sure, you can simply build in some coop-aspects in every game, but I'm happy to have a 100% solo experience and don't have to worry about missing out content or gameplay elements.
If you want solo, it is just how it is
However, woth co-op as well, it would be good for people who want co-op, but won't affect anything for solo people
Yeah, but you said "as opposed to be an addition".
If it's just tacked on, sure, why not... but if they create new mechanics around it, it would be a different story.
If I play purely solo and a game has multiplayer content, I would pay for something I would never use.
If there isn't a multiplayer in any way or shape, all the money goes to the singleplayer-experience that the devs trying to focus on.
Meaning that it looks like co-op would really fit into the game well. (No alterations needed)
And yet... if multiplayer was added as you suggested, you'll have people here complaining "Multplayer feels like it was just tacked on! This sucks!"
You can't please everyone.
But then none of those are Volition games. The reason why people are getting so worked up about not having coop is because Volition is one of the few devs that do it right.
Unless I'm mistaken the previous Far Cry games were not main story coop, only side missions were. Hoping 5 will change this, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
I wouldn't count "adding coop" as "doing it right".
The thing they are doing right is creating a game that feels like a game.
Just having fun while playing pure nonsense and bend the difficulty to your will.
You're right - tacking coop on at this point wouldn't be doing it right. That's the mistake most devs make when they add coop; it's an afterthought. I think the frustration stems from the fact that Volition didn't start out with making another full story coop game. In a way it's a shame, like a talented actor that always get typecast as a wizard or whatever... but sometimes you just wanna see an awesome wizard take on new stories in a familiar way.
No argument there... but then, I'm pretty sure the Saints games felt like games too...
I'm not sure if I'm getting your message correctly on this, but I'd tend to agree that multiplayer only games do tend to wear a bit thin because it's just the same thing over and over again without a lot of meaning behind it. Personally I've had more than enough TF2, and I'd rather play some good coop story games. I just hope that when Volition start on their next game, that they keep a seamless coop experience in mind from the start because the most fun I've ever had playing a game is in the Saints games doing coop story mode. If they don't want to do the coop thing anymore, that's cool too; I respect their right to make whatever they want to, but it would also be a shame to see an excellent wizard stop taking on wizard roles.
So as stated before, no coop, no buy.
Interesting, what some people count as "funny".
It's not about adding hours of gameplay. It's about having a shared experience with friends.
