Hito is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ monster now.
The game literally now requires more thinking than before. Reaction based gameplay is not thinking, it is just testing human reflexes to sensory input data. Now what we have instead are systems in place that make it so even with slower reflexes you have a chance to fight and win. With reaction based gameplay, the monsters at the top with 200ms choice based reactions could just turtle and win everytime. Now they are often forced to make an *educated* guess on what their opponent will do.
If you feel you're being overwhelmed by light spam and evasive attacks, then you should be able to take note of such patterns by your enemies and counter them. How to counter evasive attacks? Heavy then feint - most spammers do it on reaction to a red indicator. How do you beat light spam? Use frame advantage, or choose characters that can beat it with HA or their own dodge attacks. Light attacks can't be feinted, so using Warlord or BP means access to full guard to shutdown such offense. But then that leads to the potential for your opponent to gb you out of fullblock - so there lies another layer of read based gameplay that actually requires prediction of your opponent's moves. Prediction is what you call thinking "to play neatly". Just reacting to everything is not.
I had the pleasure of playing pre-CCU. Then the CCU dropped and it felt jarring, but every change made to it made sense (except for damage numbers, which were then adjusted accordingly).
Game is in a better state now in terms of gameplay, new hero does look nice. Warmonger was good, Gryphon was terrible, and some of the art design seems dumb. More magic is not necessarily appreciated, but how it is implemented and how it will be in the future seems to be at a fairly low level. Game is better than ever, and the only thing pushing people away tbh is the high skill floor for entry. But then again, this is a game for warriors who are determined to fight and win on the battlefield.
You too can be a warrior! Get back in the arena and prove your worth! One day, after countless battles, you will find yourself decimating any foe that crosses your path.
If you or anyone else would like tips on how to play better, please let me know and I'll help. Or go on the For Honor Dojo discord to ask for help. You can do it!
