I think the problem was the game requires so much ressources from the consoles hardware that there isnt enough left to render everything a second player would see.
(i've experienced that with black ops 3 on ps4, if we get to far from each other the game lags to 20fps because it renders more area of the map)
still, sucks to be held back again by consoles. but well, as long as it runs smooth. not like i have a high end pc.
I think Gears of War 4 on PC has a splitscreen campaign, but not multiplayer. Splitscreen needs to make a comeback on PC, awesome feature, that has sadly been left by the wayside.
My gf and I play local co-op / splitscreen games all the time on PC, pull up 2 chairs. It's great.
I personaly never played a split screen on the PC only on consoles. I look for split screen games on the PS4 to play with my son or daughter. Most suck bad. I think the best couch co-op I have played in a while was Diablo 3 and it wasent very good.
If you have nvidia geforce experience and turn on experimental features you can turn on game sharing which lets you stream a game to another friends pc, and they can send back controler inputs allowing you to do local coop over the internet. Works out pretty good as well.
The connection is very stable and honestly it works out pretty great. There was very little lag for us when we did it. The current limitation is you can only stream at 720p 60fps currently. We were using it with Tales of Berseria. So as far as I know you can use it with just about any game.
The best part is only the host needs a computer that can actually play the game, the "friend" just needs to run a video in chrome esentially.
