RE4 isn't considered Horror?
I had some scary moments in that game. It knew when to be action, and when to be horror. My cousin convinced me to buy this game YEARS ago. I thought it would be dull because I never liked the gameplay and I'm not a fan of fixed camera angles. A lot of the bosses freaked me out mainly the human sized ones. It was just an all-around great action adventure game probably the greatest of all time.
I'd like to get some feed back from the purists. RE 5 was a mediorce action game and its tone was all over the place it only lasted because of the co op. So I see that ones problem. I did't bother with six it looked way worse.

I love RE4, but I don't like it as a Resident Evil game, not by a long shot. It has basically nothing to do with previous entries other than some shared characters, but you could easily just change the names of the characters and it could work as an entirely seperate canon from the main series.

There's an abundance of ammo, there's far more comedic elements, there's quick-time events, there's the fixed third-person perspective, way overpowered weapons... I could go on. It's just not the same and it's nowhere near as scary as the older games.

The only instances that throwback to the older entries is the Ashley chapter (which is my favourite chapter in the whole game), but that's more like Clock Tower than Resident Evil. And Regeneradors/Iron Maidens are creepy too, but that threat's removed when you have the thermal scope, a crapton of sniper ammo, grenades, et cetera.

NADIR nailed it. I love the game, but I can't be afraid of something I can kick in the face, much less suplex like a wrestling champion.

RE4 (and sequences) should be called "Thriller/Action". They are not chilled my spine anymore.

I see I have had instances where I've run out of ammo mainly on Pro difficulty. Thats due to the fact that I deleted my save file and started with the original weapons. I ran a lot with the boss fights. That one guy thats like 7ft tall and you are stuck in that hallway. He was freaking bullet proof. I just ran and waited for the elevator I hated that ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
Another scary moment was when you are on that hanging cage thing with cargo. You fought that monster that keeps climbing all over. The giant lake monster destroyed me mentally LOL My cousin told me to shoot the water net thing you know a damn Whale eats me!

The third person perspective was a much needed change. The old fixed camera angle was terribly outdated. It was annoying to shoot one zombie let alone 5!

I also liked those Ashley entries as well. It was very exciting to get chased and get away from the Ganados* (spell check)
The name Resident Evil should have been dropped a long time ago. They should have made it Biohazard in the first place or after 2.

I would play that out of curiosity. I don't know how it would work with Boss fights though.
RE4 has a great atmosphere, but there weren't a whole lot of really scary parts in it.

Yeah IMO RE 4 is a Horror themed scenario with action gameplay. It's Horror-Third Person Shooter. Its not traditional Survival horror

Survival Horror it's quite a loose term... Everybody has one definition for it...

Thats the RE franchise, and they can call it whatever they like they are entitled to it. For real fans RE is alot like Alien and Aliens, RE,1,2,3 CV would be Ridley Scotts Alien, While 4,5, and 6 James Camerons Aliens, bith great in their own right, both could be labeled Horror and easily so, but we all know that while Alien is in fact a pure sci fi Horror, Aliens introduced a large amount of action to the franchise.

I really love them both, in their own ways, but no, RE 4,5,6, are not survival horror. maybe in some cheesey army of darkness comedic way, but nothing like 1,2,3, no QTE can replace what 2 and especially 3 did to you in the dark lol.

re4 still had some creepy parts to it i don't care what anyone says, nostalgia glasses seem to blind people alot sometimes, though i agree that re5 and 6 were completely nothing but action. Fact is i can't move while shooting in re4 and it still has the old tank controls, you still run out of ammo very easily on pro difficulty and the music still has a creepy vibe, it might NOT be as scary as the original 3 but it's a hell of alot scarier than 5 and 6.

Regenerators say hello

Well, if you ask me, Resident Evil 4 was the first and last one of those "New-Style"-Ones that could be labeled as "Horror-Survival", not only because of it's Atmosphere alone, but also for all those memories you had of previous Entries to the Series.

The only thing i really missed in 4 where some puzzles.

But after that they dropped it completly. With Re5 being a playable Rambo-Movie and Re6, which is....wel i don't what it is, all i know is that it had a better Atmosphere at some Points, and the rest was just Rambo all over again.

I hope Revelations 2 will turn out to be good... i really do :/
