I'm not sure what would lead people like myself to believe this game is anything other than a remaster of the original. I see no inclination on the store page that this is the gamecube version.
They sold me something under false pretense, which isn't really a rare thing I suppose.

Whoa just watched the original intro, and while that's cool for something of the ps1 era...holy god the acting is terrible and it's pretty bad overall. The transition from live action to game is weird anyways, glad they didn't keep it.

Also the gamecube edition contains everything from the original except better graphics, and I think they changed the Jill sandwhich quote.

Also nobody considers Ep1-3 better than 4-6 lol.

The guy who wrote the text for the store page sure didn't know what he's talking about. However, I think it's no coincidence that it is only now that this really leads to confusion. I vividly remember when REmake HD was first announced - everyone on the RE forums was excited and of course we all KNEW it would be a remastered port of the 2002 remake. But two years later, things might certainly be different. I don't think they consciously wanted to mislead buyers, though, as the overwhelming majority of people really wanted that REmake ported to PC, and not a remastered version of RE1. The latter woud certainly not have sold a million copies for 20 bucks a piece within a month too.

Wait so did people really think they were going to remake the entire game instead of just upgrading the existing GC version? Pretty sure remastered GC version was more than obvious, considering the RE4 version we got was the same.

Nobody scammed you. The Gamecube remake, which was also ported over to the Wii later on, is widely known that it exists. It was a massive success and has always been claimed as the best game in the series and one of the best games ever made. That statement on the store page isn't false. The original RE did define the survival horror genre but the remake defined it yet again.

If you weren't aware of the existence of that version of the game and you actually thought they were doing something fancy with the original game, then I'm not sure what to tell you. Every RE fan, and every horror game fan, knows about the Gamecube remake. If you saw any talk over all these years about the RE series and which are the best games then it would have always included the remake as usually the best one.

I miss the old video intro as well. Yes, is was corny, but it gave it the feel of a B movie that fit with the rest of the game.

If you read my post, I said I didn't know that remake even existed. I played the 1996 version.

Fenixx I didn't say I was scammed. I do feel mislead. I'm a horror game fan, but I don't typically pay attention to things I didn't have a console for. There are many RE games I know nothing about. I've played the games with numbers in them. I also don't follow horror communities or lists because I like to think for myself.

I think I saw a mod that adds the original intro into the game. So, if you are really that hung up on nostalgia, go for it.

Don't know if anyone mentioned already, but the voice acting has also been modified slightly, no more fun cheesy lines like jill sandwich and master of unlocking, though I do believe there's a mod that puts in the original voice acting.. Though in all honestly I really like the changes they made in REmake

Especially how they rearanged room layouts, really confused me at first!

Overall I'd agree with others here saying this is the definitive version of RE, and RE1 still to this day (imo) is the best one in the entire series, even better then the original

And I love the original, I was 6 years old when that game came out and was my real first time playing a horror game, unless dracular doom-ripoff fps for dos counts

I tried replaying the original re many times over the years, since I still own my original copy, and I really struggled to get into it like I could back then because it's not aged very well at all

RE2 and 3 still pretty fun in modern-era and have aged good imo, but the original is pretty old now and it shows
