I found it, but Barry won't save me when i dance around in that little room, so its put the shotgun back or become a pancake for me.
Last time we met was in the main hall, we split up to "Secure our escape route". Is there a way i can make him save me again?
I don't think so. You should be able to get that shotgun yourself at this point anyway; you just need to look in another area of the mansion. ;)
Are you implying the broken shotgun?
Indeed I am!
You don't actually need to kill even the first dog.
It's an Indiana Jones style replacement puzzle, which you seem to have pretty much solved here.
There are three Handgun magazines on the way to get the Sword key, and another two on the side where the Shotgun is.
That being said, the only dogs you should be encountering should be the ones that are in the room with one of the Handgun magazines, which is entirely optional. Just use the second floor access to the save room and skip the first floor path altogether.
1. Make sure you are moving slowly when you hear its footsteps
2. Back yourself into a corner , or at least a tighter area so it can't surround you
3. Let it get right up to you and then shoot it
4. While it's down, aim down and keep shooting until it dies
The shot gun definitely works best for a pack of them, but if you're careful you should still be able to take them out (mostly) with a pistol.
