Playing with Keyboard and Mouse
Has anyone tried playing this game without a controller only using keyboard and mouse? Is it playable or do I need to buy myself a new controller (as my old one broke)?

I'm playing it with the mouse and keyboard, works just fine when using the tank controls (original movement controls). You can rebind all of the keys as well if you'd like.

Mouse and keyboard controls are fine. Note that they work best when using the original tank controls, and you don't actually use mouse much ingame (game has static backgrounds so there's not really any use for the mouse, but you can use the mouse for all the menus and UI).

Ah but don't you aim with the mouse?

No, you don't. You get into your aiming position by holding down right-click, and fire with the left-click. That's about it. You aim up and down with the movement keys when aiming, as well as rotate.

No you don't. Right click hold the gun up and left clock fires. you aim with WASD.

Ah ok, thanks guys. I'll give it a shot. If it doesn't work for me I'll get another controller. I'll probably need it for another game in the future anyways. There is too much nostalgia for this game to pass it. I only played the original back on the PS1.

If you want to use the mouse to attack and -- moreover -- to turn your character, take a look:

I would recommend the keyboard only controls personally. They are much easier to get used to than even controller controls IMO(I play ALOT of Super Smash Bros 4 and used to play a bunch of console exclusive games in general).

Here is my control scheme: http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=378321852

The only problems are:
1. "Examine" and "Attack" are completely seperate buttons. You will have to get used to pressing two diff buttons when you shouldn't have to.
2. You must press Escape to exit menus. This exit menu functionality should also be on the Run button but it isn't :|.

But isn't rotating right awkward when holding E to aim? Or is it autoaim in this game?

Hold E with your index(pressing D and E at the same time shouldn't be too difficult) or middle finger! All should be well. Also, yes there is autoaim.

I installed it yesterday and played it for like half an hour. I found the default layout with the original tank controls to work for me. In some areas the modern way of steering works fine but it's when you switch scene with another angle and suddenly you start running back the previous scene that annoyed me. With the tank controls atleast you will always run where your character is facing. I forgot that there was autoaiming in this game, was that in the original PS1 release, don't remember that at all.

I did beat the game multiple times with mouse and keyboard, and it was ok, now I'm playing it with the 360 controller and it's definitelly better with it.

Very appreciate for sharing this! :steamhappy:
May I ask you a favor? I try to add a feature that allow the Character Always Run without need to holding specific key, like what we have in Resident Evil 0. Many Thanks!
BTW, the default keybind for Run is holding SHIFT when you click movement keys (WASD)
