One thing I never understood in the original RE is; you can only save Jill and Rebecca in Chris' campaign, and Barry is never even mentioned except for the very beginning of the campaign when you run into the mansion.

On the flip side, Rebecca is never even MENTIONED in Jill's campaign whatsoever.

So does this mean they are both respectively dead?

If so this is a weird plot hole because Rebecca is mentioned being alive in other games, and not only is Barry in Resident Evil 3 he's also going to be PLAYABLE in Revelations 2. So it's canon that both of them are alive yet in Resident Evil 1 that seems to be impossible.

Canon ending doesnt happen in either RE1 or REmake.

The canon ending is that Barry, Jill, Chris and Becky survived.

Technically, "PACHI-SLOT biohazard" is the only incarnation of RE1 that has the true ending.

well it would have been indeed better if they would make the endfight different for the main characters or at least offer different rescue paths but then again this game goes a loooong way back and I think they gave good resolutions for RE2-3 there is also no smoking in the REmake and no Kenneth decapitation scene now I remembered :S

Yeah, Barry himself isnt playable in Revelations 2 as far as we know, and its his daughter Moira who is playable, not his niece.

As for the canon ending, its always confused me how both Barry and Rebecca canonically survive, yet such an ending isnt possible. I always like to joke that the missing character is just hanging on to the chopper's rails or something.

I think you could argue that Jill's good ending is canon. Like you said Barry is alive and will be playable in Revelations 2.

At the end of Resident Evil 0, Rebecca heads to the mansion to find the rest of the bravo team. At that time, the sun is rising and the mansion is right there.

So it possible she could of gone to the Mansion, not find the team and headed back towards Raccoon City.

Barry and some crazy little girl called Natalia are the second set of playable characters in Revelations 2, this is already confirmed.

Capcom attempts to explain all of it very badly in Weskers Report. Where parts of both Chris, and Jill's storyline are the real canon. And both Rebecca/Barry escaped with them. If you play Zero I would almost argue it makes more sense not to have Rebecca here though. Since she seems like a true Rookie in this game nearly getting killed by one Hunter. Where as she already fought far worse in Zero including killing a Tyrant by herself lol.

Upon her return to civilization, Rebecca wrote a police report detailing Billy Coen's "death". What happened to her after that is unknown, but it is evident she returned to society outside of Raccoon City following its demise.

She has survived the events of Resident Evil 2, in which the character makes a notable Easter egg type cameo appearance in an undeveloped film on Wesker's desk.

So I'm pretty sure she lived in that area. There were a decent amount of survivors from Raccoon City. It wouldn't be far fetched for her to live from it as well.
