Pretty much exactly what you're doing stating it takes 3-5 hours to complete resi first time then?
No way on this earth would the average player complete this remake in 3-5 hours on their first blind play through. Not even a chance. I was chilling out and enjoying it the first time I played this PC remaster, and it still took me 6:30. That's someone who's completed Resident Evil one in over all versions literally hundreds of times now.
10+ is easily the going rate for a first playthrough. Way more if you're doing it blind too.
But for a first playthrough you can easily reach more than 15/17 hours.
Just to be clear, both games are good. But i don't like how they handled the port. You really need a high-end pc to run this at 60 frames for no reason at all. And a lot of backgrounds look beyond horrible. Shame, since some of them look stunning, like the outside areas and the redone 3D rooms. But it's just inconsistent.
Basically what Cursed said, this game is great for speed runs, challenges and other things. It has a lot of replayability, something Alan Wake lacks. Resident Evil is the franchise i replayed the most over the years. From 1998 till now. It scared me when i was younger, it scared me a lot. It was horror done right. Nowadays, not so much. But i don't find other games to be scary either. It still does horror better than any game apart from the first 3 Silent Hill games.
Revelations is just horrible. It's the same gameplay wise like the recent RE titles, meaning bland, over the top and not even a single horror element in it. People said they where bringing horror back, but i didn't see it. It was action packed, just a generic shooter. And the story/characters are also horrible. The best RE games had a simple story where the main plot was to escape the mansion/city and that's it, aka RE3. Nothing tops Code Veronica tho, that game had the most silly plot. Now they are trying to be too dramatic.
And for some reason you have an AI following you around the whole game even tho there is no coop. Unlike RE0 where it worked, this just doesn't make much sense to me.
So if you really want to get a Resident Evil game, and you only own PC. Get the HD remake despite all the port complaints and then try RE4. If you own a PS1/DC/GC, be sure to play RE2 and 3. Probably the best in the series along with the Remake.
Haha! I already got it actually, but I think its better I start with the less horror-ish ones. I've already played through the first chapter of Alan Wake and it got me decently spooked. Im just kind of feint of heart when it comes to horror in games. Something about being in control of the character, instead of watching them. I'll still play through Revelations considering I bought it, and perhaps one day I'll work up the guts to take on the older ones, including the remake of RE1.
Revelations is one of the best Resident Evil Capcom has made recently. It is far less action than RE5 and the "aquatic ambiance" was nicely done. The gameplay was also cool, if you do not consider the fact your teammate has been rendered almost completely useless.
But it was subpar concerning the plot. It was obvious some characters was designed ONLY for this episode as Morgan Lansdale or the duo Cetcham/Lumley they strongly failed concerning the humorous part. And some characters design was ridiculous too ( Raymond and Jessica...Uuugh.)
The game was meant to have "tension" with no real horror elements in it. So it's normal you are disappointed.
they're both survival horrors, but executed in different ways.
i prefer resident evil over alan wake, but i still thoroughly enjoyed playing alan wake and would play again. they're just different.
like a red delicious apple and a granny smith - both apples, different tastes.
