Strategy for Crimson Heads on Knife only run
I know the general method is to avoid killing zombies whenever possible, but if I have no choice and I'm in a corridor that's somewhat wide enough to dodge normal zombies without a problem... what's the best method to take down a crimson head? Considering how fast they run and can swipe with claws, I'm having difficulty in developing a strategy.

If you're in a corridor wide enough to avoid normal zombies, you can only avoid them. They move and react too fast to swipe at them in small corridors.

I assume that you are talking about the only mandatory V-ACT in the game, because it would've been foolish to create others since you can't use fire and V-ACTs will throw a giant wrench into your playthrough.

If you unlock the door right next to the corridor (from the broken shotgun safe room area), you can sprint past him to the Armor Key/Helmet door area. You don't have any other reason to be in the area, so evasion is a more effective tactic.

When fighting the Elder Crimson Head, you just have to dodge, swipe at him once, and repeat until he dies.

Because trying to run by zombies in narrow hallways is risky, and I assume kerosene is legal.
I try to make boddies fall on top of each other but there's always some degree of risk.

Kerosene is not allowed in the 'CQC FTW' achievement.

Whooooo, weapons live then! Thanks for letting me know. Any tips for killing zombies with a handgun to increase chances of a headshot or kneecaps?

Best strategy is making sure you never create them in the first place.

What about Crimson Heads in the normal run?
How could I prevent them and how should I deal with them while they're in front of me?

Kneecapping isn't a thing in RE1.

You have increased chances of getting a headshot if you aim up into their head, but it increases damage in general, so you may simply incapacitate them instead of killing them. You also have to be pretty damn close to do it.

If you're playing as Chris, he has a higher headshot chance, but there is no 100% way to get headshots.

When a zombie 'dies', they bleed out.

The trick is not to kill them. Avoid them if you can, or commit to killing the zombie and burning them. The burning part is important, you have a limited amount of time to do it before they change.

The only reasonable method to deal with active V-ACTs is a shotgun (or if playing as Jill, Grenade Launcher as well); Handguns are relatively ineffective and even the unlockable three-round burst Handgun has trouble stopping them properly.

Uhm... and can I get a room to get green in the map, without killing the zombies in?

Think it's a 1 in 10 chance of decapitating a zombie with the handgun (going off memories of ye olde Prima strategy guide) if that helps.

Assuming you're doing the knife only run on very easy, you should be avoiding almost every zombie you come across. Getting bit is not a big deal because it only does about 10% damage (as long as you shake them off before they bite you multiple times) and healing items are everywhere on very easy. You shouldn't be in the mansion long enough that it even becomes much of an issue anyway. A proper knife run should be fast. Definitely under two and a half hours.

Yeah, beat it on Very Easy like I did. I used Chris and earned the bad ending since I ain't fighting no tryant at the end. Oh, and save often if you can. You don't want your head sliced in the middle of the game by a damn hunter. I beat it under 2 hours and 10 mins..

So me running through this on normal was a bad idea, gotcha

A knife run on Normal would be brutal, especially since you have to fight Elder Crimson Head, who would take several Shotgun blasts.

The map color tells you if there are items in the area, not if there are zombies in them. All you'd have to do would to interact with/take all relevant items and the color would be green.
