Personally, I would start with 1 today. Precisely because it paved the way back then. Even though it is the HD remaster of the remake, it still remains in a sense the classic.
Also, 0 is harder because you control two characters and the inventory management is a bit stricter (No chests, just the two inventories and the entire environment == more backtracking for beginners)- And in general, RE1 is my favorite part.
That's time wasted backtracking that didn't need to happen. I won't ever play 0 without that item box mod.
Stange all RE games I have played including OG2 and 3 had the"magical"item box for storing items.
Yeah, it was a stupid decision but it was done with the intention of using both characters separately.
It added some twists to the gameplay, knowing that a lot of the fan base had already played RE1, 2, 3, and Code Veronica by the time RE0 came out.
