Resident Evil.Net - Fatal Error
Greetings,

1) Launching the game prompts this message:
Resident Evil.Net
Resident Evil.Net (RE NET) is a totally free service offered by Capcom.
Upload your saved data to get the most out of your Resident Evil experience!
*View things such as play history and stats.
*Use RE points to help you in other games linked to RE NET.
[Register Now] [Register Later]

2) Clicking the "Register Now" button leads to this message:
Resident Evil.Net Registration Guide
Access the URL below on your PC or smarthphone and follow the instructions to register with RE NET.
https://s.residentevil.net/1/
Have your RE NET account link code on hand when you get to the account link code input screen on the website.
[View Account Link Code] [Go Back]

3) Clicking on "View Account Link Code" displays this message:
Transferring data...
Please wait.

4) Then, one second later, a Windows' pop up appears saying:
Fatal error.
Failed open file. ...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Resident Evil Biohazard HD REMASTER\nativePC\mnits\serviceinfo 5
[OK]

On https://game.capcom.com/residentevil/sp/en/setting-maintitle.html , we see that the "Main Title" options for "Steam" platform are:
- Resident Evil
- Resident Evil 2
- Resident Evil 3
- Resident Evil 4 (NO RESIDENT EVIL 5)**
- Resident Evil 6
- Resident Evil 7 Biohazard
- Resident Evil 8 Village
- Resident Evil Revelations
- Resident Evil Revelations 2
- Umbrella Corps
- Resident Evil Resistance
- Resident Evil RE:Verse.

Based on: 1) the number of titles (above) listed in the "PLAY DATA / RESIDENT EVIL.NET" section and; 2) that the section "PLAY DATA / RESIDENT EVIL.NET" currently exists on Capcom's website, I assume that Resident Evil.Net is still active.

Since Resident Evil (1) is amongst the titles listed as "Main Title" section of the "PLAY DATA / RESIDENT EVIL.NET", I assume the Resident Evil.Net should be working for that game.

Indeed having Steam scanning the game's file did not fix the issue and no corrupted/missing file were found/updated/downloaded. Although, opening the directory: ...\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Resident Evil Biohazard HD REMASTER\nativePC\mnlts shows a blank directory (with hidden folders enabled). Thus, the file "serviceinfo", mentioned in the error message, is missing from its directory.

Any way to fix this? (Apart from reinstalling the game which seems obvious and which I haven't tried).

Regards,

B

A monkjap ancestor decided to upload a broken empty file in the last update branch, which broke the entire re.net sync service on PC for reremake. This has going broken for years already;

The only way to bind your data now is using a backup file from that old version, the fastest place to find would be in one of the steam guides in the section here that contains that said file.

If i was you i wouldn't bother with that though, there is nothing really worthwhile linking your data to renet with this game anyway.

Have a nice 'one.

Even if you choose to skip the RE.NET messages, later on in-game when saving it will try to transfer data to your account and it will crash.

You can fix it simply by going to the "mnlts" folder and delete anything within it, then download the old serviceinfo file and copy/paste it there:
