Original Resident Evil games, why not Steam release?
Why there is not release announced for the original games on Steam?

So it looks like the whole idea was GOG's and they may have done a deal to release them only on gog for now. It may still come to steam in future, or maybe capcom will see how the sales are for the gog versions and decide to do full remasters with all the content included.

Damn, i hope it comes here, i would buy all 3 in a heartbeat, specially number 3, since it was the worst of the remakes.

I got it yesterday. It ain't even worth it, imo. It's got speed/timing issues which causes running/walking speed to be inconsistent(constantly speeding up/slowing down) and makes audio not always sync up to cutsences(when I did the Moonlight Sonata part with Jill the piano was still playing as the wall opened and the cutscene ended). Also, changing resolution in the graphics options doesn't work so you're stuck in super low-res resolution(AA does work, but looks terrible with the resolution so low.)

You might as well just stick to Classic Rebirth patch + mediakite version which doesn't have those issues plus adds QoL changes like a quick turn and manual reloading.

A missed opportunity to make the original game accessible to more players. Nothing against GoG, it's nice that they're making the effort to bring the games back. But the Resi games will go down just like Silent Hill 4 The Room. Steam simply has a much larger reach and could make a lot more money.

For my part, I'm foregoing the GOG version for now. DuckStation does the same job.

played through the whole game, no issues on my end, worked perfectly.

Myself and others have the problems I described and gog support is aware of the issues so maybe they'll release patch.

In the meantime you can use the mod below to convert the USA gog version to the mediakite 1.01 version so it'll be compatible with the Classic Rebirth patch(not needed for the JPN version):

STEAM fumbled that football leaving GOG to come through really hard and really strong in a way that makes sense.

The walking speed issue doesn't happens to me often. Maybe activating Vsync, or putting it in administrator helps. This is a 1996 early PS1 title, so putting the resolution higher won't do much with it. RE 2 and 3 will be better. To me it was worth the buy. I bought the bundle for RE 2 and 3 anyway. You can use the Rebirth patch for the GOG version.

It's already a best seller on GOG, and it's a free client for everyone. They helped with all the fixes, and exclusive games are the best way to entice people.

I already know all that. I put up links to the conversion mod for USA version and Classic Rebirth itself in a post above yours.

V-sync/admin rights does nothing. There are posts about this and other issues on the gog forums. I think most people there acknowledge Classic Rebirth is still the best way to play the PC version(less issues, more QoL features that are absent in the gog release.)

As for the resolution, I see a huge difference in the reduction of jaggies in 3D models between 320x240 and 2560x1920.

I'm not trying to knock it or be too harsh, I am glad it's finally being sold digitally and thankful for gog for providing it drm-free.

Edit: Apologies, I def mean't to type not* above! >.<

This is the Virgin Interactive version which uses even worse quality FMV's than the PS1. Outside of the FMW's it gets the job done. If I want to play the absolute definitive version I just boot up the remake. RE 2 and 3 are the reason I bought the bundle anyway. The PC version of those games were much better, and if GOG will fix and boost up a few things, than I will be satisfied with it.

I read on the GOG forum that the stuttering issue while moving might be an AMD only issue, or at least a much frequent problem with AMD cards.

GOG is DRM free so you can self patch it. That would never be allowed on STEAM which has 3 levels of DRM.

Nah, Steam allows drm-free games and even games that don't technically require Steam itself to be running in the background--that's up to the game's developers or publishers whether it has drm or not or requires Steam running or not.

Off the top of my head, Wrath, Supplice, Hidden & Dangerous and The Witcher 3(I believe all CD Project Red games) can be played without Steam running at all if you run those games directly from their executables. Although some of them like Wrath and Witcher 3 you may have to either move, rename, or delete their steam_api dll files first otherwise, they may startup Steam anyway when you run their executable.

Edit: I was just screwing around with some of my installed Steam games and found Alpha Protocol, Dues Ex: The Fall, Tyranny and Xcom 2 can also all run with Steam shutdown/not running in the background too(leave their steam_api dlls alone)

You mean the "register an non steam product" option? That is allowed but they aren't selling them on STEAM. (I run the BigFish app on here for BPM LOL).

If STEAM actually sold OG Resident Evil it would come with DRM.
