worth playing?
considering getting into this series but all of the other games seem to be more modern in terms of controls and the camera. this one looks very dated. is it still worth playing to start the series or should i skip?

Story wise RE1 Remake is probably my favorite within the entire series while graphically/control wise it did age slightly, I think it holds up well and is worth experiencing! you can turn on a more modernized controls setting in the options however which gets rid of the tank controls.

i have tried time and time again to like this game, but the controls are so bad that despite my undying love for the resident evil franchise, i cannot play this game from start to finish. i'll wait for its remake.

Well no doubt they will probably make one eventually, given that RE4 didn't even need a remake.

I can kinda see where you're coming from, I didn't get into doom1-2 vanilla not even back in the day. Didn't get into shooters till goldeneye. But brutal doom and doom 64 I loved. Guess doom1 was just to dated for me.

But in regards to RE I'm kinda the opposite. Just didn't like the feel of the story, atmosphere, or generic gore monsters in the sequels.

The controls aren't bad, you just don't like them.

Resident evil 3 for the Ps1 is still an outstanding game and so is this. This is the original horror game. Sure its a different pace to RE2 remake, they are just different, not bad.
The camera is unironically still the best design decision made in a horror game of all time. Not joking. Modern games still use it. Check Tormented Souls or Song of Horror. Play on hardest difficulty (not that hard) and it's one of the best games ever to this day

This is a remake...

Many people hate tank controls. I used to be one of them. Not anymore. However, with the option to play on Alternate controls you can move freely almost like modern RE entries, but still with fixed camera angles.

Looks dated? Yes.
Master piece? The answer when you finished the game.

Both RE0 and RE1 with Alternate controls will give you an unforgettable gaming experience that every RE fan deserves.

At first you need to adjust and slowly get used to it. It's just like there is a first time in everything.

I remember capcom saying that they are not against remaking the remake as well. So one day we can potentially get a current gen engine remake of spencer mansion. However I love the og game and remake so much. But I know some are thrown off by the angles and controls.

There's no harm done on remaking. The more the merrier. Despite the DRM bs lately, still fact remains that Crapcom nailed RE4 remake well, which means there's still hope bcoz they are learning.

Experience wise I don't think RE1 Remake in 3D will match the original remake, unless they use the same formula for RE4 remake (ie, has more aggressive enemies and harder to dodge or get around with safely like most speedrunners do). Imagine Crimson Heads being overly aggressive by 10x, that you can't even aim to shoot them at point blank just like you can do in REmake.

Re4 Remake actually blew me away in some parts. But they had to nail it because the fanboys would be out for blood. Though I know people who swear the og is still better.

Crimson Heads caught me off guard when the remake came out. Us fans of the original had no idea what was coming and it came fast. lmao! Yawn, and Lisa Trevor would also be great.

3make is trash, skip it completely, but the original 3 is a great game.

What's the best platform for RE3 OG, graphics wise? Game mechanics wise?

Personally look into reshdp for RE2 and RE3 original. It upscales all the the backgrounds and looks fantastic! It requires their custom version of Dolphin but it is easy to set up. Watch youtube video on the comparisons of the og vs reshdp.

Or you can use the far superior. Modded source next version. Aside from upscale resolution you wont have to install dolphin or some other goofy launcher. Skip door opening sequence entirely. You will find guides for it on youtube, can't post the link here sadly. Look up Classic rebirth resident evil. You will want to go to the apple of eden page. If you are a fan of Dino crisis, Soul Reaver 2 or blood omen 2. You can find them there as well. If you are still wondering where to get the source next game files. Or don't have the physical game on hand. Archive org will have them.

That version is way better but harder to come by for those who do not know where to look which is why i did not mention it. But that version is the one I play for RE 1, 2 and 3. Also, Archive is a godsend site.
