You can just sell it to the merchant for money.

You can't just drop them on the floor if that's what your asking. To clear your inventory, you need to either use the item (consume the first aid spray, use the ammo, etc.) or put it into an item box, of which there are multiple throughout game in the many safe rooms. They all connect to each other, so any item(s) you put in one item box can be retrieved at another.

The inventory space is very small so you need to make sure that you absolutely need whatever you take. Generally, I keep a weapon, some spare ammo (enough to fill only one slot) and a healing item, but you should try to ask yourself: Do I truly need everything I am carrying right now? If not, then drop it into an item box for later.

Honestly the game is so old in design it is hardly worth playing beyond those that enjoy doing challenge runs. I would suggest refunding and finding a tolerable playthrough on Youtube, people that know the beats of the game can do it in less than 2 hours and as I am sure you noticed you are not missing anything in terms of combat fun. Really it needed a complete remake like 2 3 and 4 got.

♥♥♥♥ no.

It's still worth playing today and, even if it is a product of it's time (with the classic survival horror design), it's still one of the best horror games ever made and, in my opinion, one of the best video games of all time.

Not every game should be remade and have it's identity and uniqueness neutered with remakes that trim out it's character and soul for the sake of "modernization". If I can play this game roughly 16 or 17 years after it's release and still enjoy it enough to become one of my favorite games of all time, then other people can too.

-Feeling lost and confused, without clear clues on what you have to do?
-Feeling that you have no choice but to explore and figure things out on your own?
-Feeling like you're not welcome, and that the game mechanics/experience are not exactly designed to be your friends?
-Feeling that you can't just shoot, and kick, and slash, and parry the ♥♥♥♥ out of enemies because your character combat capabilities and resources are not allowing it?

Well, those are symptoms of having made contact with an actual Resident Evil game.

That was precisely part of the design phylosophy behind classic RE games. 'Survival Horror' experiences, designed as big escaping puzzles with a much bigger emphasis on exploration, planning, and limited resource/inventory management, over gunning down everything in your way for fun and rewards.

The game you started with and loved is one of those that have practically nothing to do with that, as it was made to be more of a mainstream rollercoaster action TPS with a horror theme.

I mean, I love RE4 and think it's a great game but yes, RE4 is more action focused, which REmake definitely isn't. They're very different

REmake is much more of a survival horror game in the most classic definition of the term, which means you (talking to OP) will be required to strategize what to bring or leave behind, explore when the way to progress isn't quite clear, scrap by in moments when your resources are very low, etc.
this game is way too hard for me too. they expect you to like read maps and pickup lots of random items, there's no way my brain can keep track of all this complex 90s logic.

It takes time to figure everything out at first, but once you beat it the first time you can essentially beat it in under 2 hours afterwards. Since its your first playthrough it may take about 6 to 8 hours but I can give you some pointers. First pointer I can give you is explore everything and look for puzzles to solve, do be careful though as some puzzles will kill you if you dont do it fast enough. Save often but not too much because it takes ink ribbons to save. If you can run from a fight do it and save ammo because there are boss monsters later on that can take quite a few bullets. If you need to drop items off find storage boxes and memorize where they are. Read EVERYTHING, this one is important for your first run without a walkthrough because the books and notes will tell you things you need to know to progress. If a door is locked it will tell you what key is needed and keys will be obtained mainly through puzzles. Feel free to message me for more tips and tricks if you need them.

Thanks for tips and the discussions! i don't have any problems with the layout of the game. Just alot of adjusting. i really just wanted the lore so i could continue into RE2. So i watched some lore videos and watched all the CS,S from zero and 1.

I absolutely love RE2, downright terrifying, Love the difficult management, and figuring things out. It makes me comfortable i can save as much as needed though. the ink ribbons in one are super stressful for someone new to the genre as a whole

No it doesn't. This game follows the same camera angles as the original, from what you're saying you've never actually played it. You're telling this dude to refund the game cause it's designed like the original trilogy.

Why bash resident evil? Most games on psx had prerendered backgrounds. Final fantasy 7 which is one of the most successful games ever made. Silent hill1/2 which every oldschool horror fan praises, Metal Gear while still a full 3d game had a fixed top down perspective, you couldn't even aim or see enemies off screen. There's countless others from this era, dino crisis, parasite eve, etc etc.

No one cared back then, and it doesn't make a game bad just cause times have become uniformed and generic. If you want examples of full 3d horror games back then I suggest looking into soul reaver and shadowman, that's about all you got, or mario 64/banjo, but you're looking for horror right?

And back on topic, I was just thinking what the op was thinking just now lol. Its kinda what makes this game so great, exploring the mansion and I'm really not trying to follow the walkthrough. But over 20 years ago I actually fully completed this game on GC including all the speed runs. This version adds even more unlocks and challenge modes, amazing... Well worth the price simply outstanding a better remaster than I thought it'd be. But boy is this game confusing and cryptic I feel like I've forgotten everything.

Also RE4 while its probably my 3rd fav resident evil, I never needed a walkthrough or even a hint once in that game. Its pretty linear and the puzzles are so obvious its painful. Its a straight up 3d action game with some inventory elements. It almost felt automatic. The real complexities in RE4 is figuring out a boss puzzle before it kills you.

All of the Silent Hill games were fully 3D, including SH1. But yeah, SH1-3 (and I guess 4 too even though it's pretty weird) follow the old-school survival horror formula, which is a very effective one.

They were 3d but much like metal gear they were also fixed perspectives. Actual full 3d camera movement was pretty limited back then to, uh, stuff like spyro or ape escape. And they looked pretty janky. Even silent hill looks a bit rough but I actually love the graphics in SH1 for having some abstract charm.

I feel like its worth playing for a lot of people, its a very classic survival horror and for its time, it does do a great job, I understand its suppose to be confusing, and even very dated. i would like to give a shot in the future. no reason for a refund. it was like 4 dollars and is a classic.

I did however simply pick it up because i was purchasing most of the games via the capcom sale. and really wanted to understand the lore. and to be honest. was just really impatient and wanted to get into The remakes of 2 and 3, hop into 5 and 7.

I did take the advice of watching a small speed run and all the CS's and im glad i did cause there was some super cool hints in RE2, and it made playing as Claire more impact cause you had played as (or rescued) her brother in the previous titles.
