For the people who constantly ask About RE1-3 for the PC !
Are you guys aware that there are remastered PC versions of both Resident Evil 2-3 !? The downside is they were only released in japan in 2006 under the names BioHazard 2 and BioHazard 3 Last Escape SourceNext or KittyMedia. Also for Resident Evil 1 there is a 1997 released PowerVR version who looks and plays better than its downscaled PC counterpart which was censored in euope with the black and white intro except germany, the only big problem with that one is that it only runs on dedicated PowerVR cards like the Matrox M3D or the Apocalypse and you need an old system or Vintage PC to run Win98 on it.

Here I have made an unboxing and gameplay vid of it last year !

I just wish Capcom would port over the PowerVR PC version of RE1 and translate the 2 Sourcenext PC ports and bring them all 3 to steam ! Its very doable for them and it would make so many people and Resi fans happy :]

Last time I checked, those SourceNext ports doesn't have any config window whatsoever.
You can't even change keybinds.. which was possible on the original ports.
Oh yeah, SourceNext has a bad fame indeed :P

I have to re-check it when I have time but I remember that they had clean uncompressed FMVs which looked so much better than the compressed FMVs in the original PC version and yup I know about the crap PC ports that SourceNext did with DMC3 and Breath of Fire 4 PC which I actually own xD it was only released in europe but I thought it was okayish, at least it runs at a higher resolution than the Playstation version, same goes for Resident Evil PowerVR which runs at 800x600 which is so much better than the original PC direct3D version which runs at a max res of 640x480 :/ and also has speedup issues.

Ohh, that's right! I had forgotten about those!
I remember the first time I saw those FMVs.. after years seeing the compressed PSX FMVs.. I was like: "THIS IS SO HD!" xD
AlucarD Aug 24, 2014 @ 3:46pm
yes a real shame as I always thought Resident Evil 2 had some awesome FMVs, remember when Hunk retrieves the G-Virus from the doctor and he hunts his team down :D That FMV blew me away on the Playstation xD They compressed it later for the PC as well to fit on 2 normal 700mb CDs :( the Sourcenext versions come on DVDs which can easily hold 4,7 GB so no problem with compression anymore :D The good thing is thou you can just take all videos from the sourcenext version and copy paste them into your old PC version they will work just fine but they have that annoying japanese hard sub overlay which is okay by me since they do look so much better :]

Here is a speedrun I did way back and I remember I played the original PC version of RE2 but with the SourceNext videos from the BioHazard 2 version copied into the games directory, thats why they have the japanese hardsub on them. They look sooooo much better than the compressed FMVs.

didnt know that. even when living in switzerland i didnt see it. mainly because every shop was selling the german versions.

but well, even when i have the original versions, i still cant play part 1 and 2 on my pc. it keeps comlpaining about the OS. doesnt matter what changes i do, it still didnt work.
thats why i would be happy if they would be avialble on steam because then i know i can play them. hopefully.

I wish capcom would remake re 2 and 3 like they did for the 1st game

Imagine nemesis chasing you on RE3 but with graphics like in the REmake :O
AlucarD Aug 25, 2014 @ 11:20am
Well I dont think they will do it :/ REmake and RE Zero were done with the old team and I think Shinji Mikami himself the RE godfather had involvment in it. Nowadays Capcom lost its awesome RE team and Mikami :( which will release his last game I beleive The Evil Within this october. It would be cool if they hire a new team to do the REmake treatment on RE2-3 but I dont think that will happen I rather think they dill do a RE Revelations 2 instead.

Yeah I don't think it'll happen either, we can dream though

You can still run the old PC releases of RE1-3 even on modern PCs with some tweaking (except RE1 PowerVR that one only runs on Win98 PCs with a PowerVR expansion, trust me) but it would be great to tweak them that they run through steam I mean System Shock 2 was done that way and even Thief 1-2 do run on modern PCs nowadays and there are excellent PC ports of RE2-3 in japan as seen in the above links so they only need to translate them and release them on steam and I would buy them in a heartbeating.

I have re-checked the SourceNext PC version of BioHazard 3 Last Escape and it does have the mercenaries mini game in a different .exe file

There is also an european version called Resident Evil 3 Nemesis done by Xplosive that one is easier to install on WinXP and Win7 but that one lacks the Mercenaries Mini game and its also censored (which means you cant kick off the heads of the zombies when bitten in the leg). The sourcenext PC version is completely uncensored as well as the GameCube version of RE3 which is the one to get !

cheers

I am pretty sure i managed to make the RE1 port work on Win7 a year ago. I certanly remember beating RE1 on PC.

Anyway, even tho we already have the old trilogy on PC, they are not int their best interations:

We have no Director's Cut or any of the Nintendo DS features on RE1.

And lets not forget that all 3 of them are barely a port at all, having almost zero actual PC functions.
AlucarD Aug 25, 2014 @ 5:08pm
Yup its doable but the problems start with the installation :/ you have to cancel the GUI and install it manually from the disc I believe, also setting compatibility mode to Win95 and it does have some speedup issues and worst of all it runs at a max resolution of 640x480 :( but aside from that I do enjoy it, its a timeless classic and I truly wish they would re-release it on the PC same as System Shock 2 was released.

i have tried to get Re1 to run but it just keeps failing. and i dont want to install some third party program i have never heard of and i nthe ned i have a damn virus. so i think i can wait till this game is released. at least i cna enjoy the videos from the original.

Well I will pick up the PC versions I have and will try it on my laptop which has Win7 and if I manage to get them to run there I will post a step by step video, I remember I really did get to run it on Win7 and it ran fine aside from some speedup problems at the beginning of the game and the low resolution. Here found my old speedrun of it, thats the US uncut PC release running on Win7 and I recorded it with Mirillis Action! since FRAPS can't simply record that antique of a game. Also the european version (aside from the german PC version) got censored :(

AlucarD, i have added you! As i need to ask something of you!

There might be a way to emulate M3D or other cards and thus achieve a better result than playing Resident Evil PowerVR on a native vintage computer, but i have a problem and need your help!
