Disabling "One Dangerous Zombie" Mode
According to the wikia once you've unlocked "One Dangerous Zombie" mode, you cannot disable it and it is forced on all playthroughs. I want to play the game on Hard Mode which is only available via loading a completed save.

I know that you can do Real Survival mode instead. I just wanted to see if anyone knows how to disable One Dangerous Zombie mode completely.

On another note - does anyone know if there's a mod to replace all zombies with crimson heads? I would think if there's an enemy randomizer mod surely there would be a crimson head replacement mod, no?

It's not for every playthrough, only every playthrough on the specific file that it's been unlocked in. So if I beat Chris and Jill on Hard and save that file to Slot 2, then whenever I load it up to play 'once again...' it'll be active, but not for any other files or if I were to just start a new game.
So you'd have to beat it twice in a row sorry

It can't be disabled. Only way is to keep an older clear save file that has Once Again but not ODZ, or just play Real Survival which is Hard +manual aim +non-linked boxes.

Yeah I've only ever played Real Survival mode the past several times and its getting old.

I've tried loading it from all save files and its the same. I think once its unlocked it stays unlocked no matter which save you load from.

I'll make things real clear for you since people seem to have troubles explaining things properly whenever someone asks a question.

One Dangerous Zombie is active on a cleared file if that file has cleared data for both Chris and Jill. For example, you beat the game with Chris, then save the game which gives you a cleared file. If you load that cleared file, play through the game using the Once Again option, but this time beat the game as Jill, then proceed to save that cleared file, it will activate One Dangerous Zombie. That's how it works. There is no speculation, rumors, ifs, ands, or buts.

The way to get around that is to have multiple cleared files. The way I do it is slot 1 in the saves is purely for Chris. If I want to play as him, I load the cleared file in slot 1, and away I go. Then I have slot 2 for Jill, and it functions the same way. Then slot 3 is for both characters together, which has One Dangerous Zombie active. It's dumb that we have to do things that way, but it's the way the game is designed. There is no other way around it.

As for replacing all the enemies with Crimson Heads, just use the randomizer mod from Benn Powell. You can select to randomize the enemies, then choose only Crimson Heads, or whatever else you might want. Just in case you don't know how to get your hands on it...

Be sure to read everything on that page. You need to install a patch for things to work properly.

Thank you for this. I have like 8 clear save files and I tried all of them but I must have saved completed games in each slot with each character, since it still puts it in ODZ mode with each. That's very strange it works that way.

I also did not know you could select which enemies you want in that mod.

It's weird the way they have different modes and stuff in this game. I can only assume it's because of the way it used to work back in 2002 or whenever the original came out. Kind of primitive game design that just never got changed.

And yes, you can select whichever enemies you want. You can also choose to not randomize items, but randomize everything else. Lots of options are available with it. I prefer to do random items and locks. It mixes things up nicely while still maintaining a fair run through the game. Once you start screwing with the enemies, it kind of breaks the game in a lot of ways.

I like the old school way that this game handles saves and unlocks. Makes it easy to just start with a completly clean slate and unlock stuff again just for the fun of it, while in the modern titles, once you unlocked a weapon or mode, it stays unlocked unless you get rid of your save or something.

I agree, it annoys me that in a lot of the newer games you just automatically get all the unlocks dumped in your box for every run, or having the collectibles like Mr. Everywhere just be permanently gone for every run. Its cool this game does it the way it does
