Have used 18 ribbons so far... am I screwed?
So I just toasted Plant 42 and got the last helmet key and so far I saved 18 times.
I think this is a bit too high.
Am I screwed? How is going to be by now?

there is 12 ribbons left for you :

slight spoilers :

in the artroom you can access from the mainhall with the helmet key. if you go there directly trough the graveyard backdoor you will only encounter ONE enemy which is scripted to appear but you can run from it aswell. thats 3 ribbons at once. easy to get. make GOOD use of these and you can keep going. only safe after you finished a helmet door region completly and got back to the saveroom with all you needed and wanted from them. should work out just fine.

another 3 are found once you complete the mainsion section for good and get the battery for the yard. they are found right beside a new typewriter next to an itembox. its a completly new area. i wont spoil what area here tough. just that you have never entered it so far. this section is very short compared to the mansion and also very linear. shouldnt need 3 saves to pass it.

the last 6 are all found in the very final area of the game. you can reach it after you finished the above mentioned area.

so youre far from screwed aslong as you make good use of the 3 ribbons in the artroom next to the mainhall. there is 4 helmet key doors that it will open. you MUST visit all 4 to finish the game. the artroom is one and is stupid easy to do as there is only 1 enemy in there in its entirety before you get what you need from there. 1 other helmet room is just 1 room and its a puzzle. no enemys at all (above serumsaveroom stupid easy to bring the stuff to the box)
the other 2 are a bit more troublesome. both are in the upper part of the mansion. 1 contains a bossfight. use 1 ribbon each before doing either of these. use the 3rd one after finishing the puzzle room or after finishing the artroom. or keep it. entirely your call on the 3rd. definitly safe before doing either of the other 2 doors. all i will say.

tryed to keep this as spoilerfree as i could.

All depends on how many ink ribbons you have left.

No but you should try reducing the frequency at which you save.

Try saving your ribbons for when you're about to fight a boss assuming you played this before or played the original. Still you should be okay as long as you keep making progress you'll find more ink ribbons.

To give you an idea how screwed you are (or not), this is the amount of ink ribbons you can find in the game (as Jill).

Very easy: 75
Easy: 39
Normal: 30
Hard: 24

I think I'm playing in Normal so I guess I'm very screwed.

Oh ye you're rather fu$ked. Might I suggest going back to an earlier save and maybe try to do some stuff without saving inbetween?

Why? If you've defeated Plant 42, you are already halfway through. Sure, there are some tougher enemies in your way now, but your arsenal should also be a better now.
Technically, you have 12 ink ribbons left. The first 3 of those you can get with the helmet key you've git after Plant 42. All you need to do, is to get back to the mansions main hall and from there - with the key - to the art room.
Just bring some heavy artillery...it helps.

Once you got those 3 ribbons, use them only, after you achived something. Like...solved a puzzle. Defeated a boss, reach a new area of the game, get through a dangerous passage unscathed etc.
That way you should be able to get along with the ribbons that are left.

Not possible, I just overwrite the save. And no way I'm reloading all the way back 'cause it was already 15 hours of gameplay.

Mmm maybe I'm not *so* much screwed. A puzzle, huh? How many hours until I finish from now on? Perhaps if I save at each hour of gameplay I may have a chance.

That depends on how long it took you to get this far. All in all at this point the game becomes a little more linear anyway so it should took less time to do the other half than it tooks you to beat the first half.
Simple advice: Get back to the mansion and make your way to the mainhall and from there to the art room. Grab the ribbons from there and the box in the room behind and save your progress.
Then proceed with the helmet key. From that on there are two more doors you can open with it. One in the upper east wing and one in the upper west wing.
Go for the west wing first. Solve the puzzle there and go for the east wing. Unlock the door, ditch the key and save again at the save room in the east wing staircase. (You'll see why shortly after)

Thats kinda the way you should spend your ribbons in your first run. Use 'em when you actually did something important.
Also: Try to have more than one save slot. At this point it doesnt matter that much anymore, but in the older REs its helpfull to have an alternative save point if things get to nasty.

Also also: The difficulty you have chosen can be identified by checking the colors of your saveslot. If the text is:

Purple: Very easy
Green: Easy
White: Normal
Red: Hard
Blue: Real Survivor
Yellow: Invisible Enemies

Just don't save after every miniscule amount of progress. If you knew what you had to do you'd have about 1-2 hours left now. Of course that's not the case and you can add a few hours but my point is, say you don't save and die and then you lose an hour of progress. Repeating the stuff you did, now that you already know what needs to be done from your previous attempt without stumbling around will be more like 5 minutes to get you back to where you were before.
Wyrtt Nov 11, 2020 @ 3:27am
even on first playtrought game is 10 hours long. You have 10+ ribbons left and you finished half of the game.
