Resident Evil HD Remaster CRASHES ON STARTUP NO MATTER WHAT I DO!!!

I have done everything I could possibly do to get this game to work on my PC and it WILL NOT START AT ALL. I have gone through every single page, guide, and forum that appears on the first page of google because every page after that talks about resident evil 2, 7, and 0 crashes which are not related to what I'm trying to fix and I've gone through every disscusion and guide on steam no solution worked. Every time I launch the game it crashes it doesn't matter how many times I try it, it crashes I have put it in every single compatibility mode and ran it on and off administrator mode for all of them. I have downloaded a downgrade patch because apparently one of the updates screwed the game and even that didn't work. I cant even edit the config.ini file because the game wont even get to the main menu so it can make one, I press launch the Resident Evil window pops up and immediately it says "bhd.exe has stopped working" no capcom splashscreen nothing just a small black window like all games when they load up for the first second then it crashes. I have updated all my drivers I have downloaded every directx file windows would allow me to download, my system specs are more than overqualified to run this game I have installed a mod that said it would fix the issue didn't work. I put the wmvcore.dll in the directory because that worked for some people I downloaded the d3dx9_43.dll file because that also helped a lot of people and it still wont work. I have verified the integrity of the game files that also didn't work and I have also disabled windows defender and uninstalled and reinstalled the game because apparently windows defender supposedly prevents some files for Resident Evil to install that also didn't work so now I'm in a rut because I want to play this game before Resident Evil 3 comes out because I want to know Jill's story and I have also never ever played the original Resident Evil before, can someone please help me fix the issue to my problem I have been at this for 3 hours now and I cannot find a single fix that will work.

HDD: 2x 1 TB Seagate
External HDD: 1x 8 TB WD Easystore (<---- All of my RE games 0-7 and revelations 1&2 are on this drive all work except Resident Evil 1)

which is more than overkill to run this game

Can someone please help fix my problem?

I have this same problem. game attempts to open and crashes immediately. i just upgraded my video card hoping it would help, and it did not.

it will run in Linux. need to install something to get the videos to work but it is really simple if explained by someone competent.

That sucks bro. Its great game. I dont have a direct solution for you but my 5 year old ♥♥♥♥♥♥ office-like computer launches the game perfectly every time. maybe you have too much advanced stuff for the game. Mods, programs, this and that. Maybe just erase all unneccessary stuff and restart from a vanilla point. Maybe some settings u use for other games need to be disabled for this game to launch. I dont know Im not a big gamer or computer geek. Hope it works out. Gl.

I had the same issue with RE 0, 1 and Revelations, opened the game, a black window opened and closed back off.

Deleting the config file should fix the issue.

Thank you this also worked for me.

For me it was AMD super resolution. A bunch of older RE games seem to crash with that option enabled.

I have tried to play this recently on multiple PC's. My main one is a rtx 4070 gpu etc so more than capable but yeah no matter what I do it doesn't run. I got it to run once on my GPD Win Mini earlier, but after closing the game and reopening it started doing the black screen and close issue too. I dont have any GPU scaling on. I deleted the config file like others suggested. Tried downloading fixes etc. I am baffled how anyone can play this game on Windows 11.

I found somewhat consistent success by disabling the video card in device manager. I got a 3080, so I guess it just don't like newer cards maybe?

Yo jugue ambos, RE0 y RE1 HD remaster sin problema, pero unos meses despues quise volver a jugarlos y me paso eso, solo se abre la pantalla negra y se cierra, ya ni siquiera inicia ni se escucha nada,

eso de "Deshabilitar el escalado de GPU en la configuración del controlador" donde queda?

ya busque como hacer eso pero en nigun lado dicen exactamente como hacerlo ¿donde esta? dicen que las opciones de NVidia pero ahi no vi nada que se llamara asi o tiene otro nombre

estoy en w10 mi tarjeta es una 4070 ti super, solo quiero intentar eso deshabiltar el GPU pero no encuentro la ruta o el nombre exacto para eso y probar

¿borrar un archivo? no lo recomiendo porque ya lo hice una ves y resulto que exactamente ese archivo se instalo en "la raiz" del OS y al borrarlo no paso nada, al reiniciar mi pc quedo muerta, tube que reinstalar el OS, por un solo archivo de 2kb, asi que si me juran por todos los dioses que borrar un archivo del juego es la solucion NO LO HARE sorry, saludos.

On latest version of nVidia it is:
Adjust desktop size and position > scaling
choose scaling done by "display" instead of GPU.
The issue is not to disable scaling completely, its to take it off the CPU and put it to display and keep scaling to full or ratio, otherwise it will be the resolution you choose as a little screen in the center especially if your on a 4K monitor like me.
Tried it and it finally worked.
