It's not a gamebreaker, but I wish they made it a bit more consistent. As for a remake REMAKE, I don't think it needs it, but I I wouldn't complain if we got yet another way to play the classic.
IMO, the RE2 and RE3 remakes are the way these stories should be told. The old school RE, that's only how it is because of tech limitations at the time. I don't like those limitations. I never did.
I overlooked them because it was a small price to pay for the content, and I understood why it had to be that way.. But you don't emulate them in a modern port of the game when you don't have to.
I like the RE1 HD Remaster, it's classic RE and then some. It's light years away from the RE2 Remake though.
It just is.An the RE3 Remake was even better. It's short, too short, I agree. And there's elements I wish it had, and elements I wish it didn't have.
Look what it offers in place though. It's incredible!
That's the new RE franchise. I say keep it coming! I'll pay for it all day long. And so will the rest of you. You'll deny it though.
RE remake is my favourite Resident Evil. This still a masterpiece, aged very well and still looks great. Does it need a remake? No.. But I would still get more excited about an announcement of RE1 remake than the rumours about RE4 remake.
As much as I love this classic, I would love more RE1. This will always be the best in the series and being able to experience in a different way would be something exciting and there are plenty of things a remake could bring to the experience.
Exploring the mansion and these events in a full 3D environment would be great in the same way exploring the RPD on RE2 remake was. Nostalgic, yet new.
Having a playable intro- The same way RE2 remake started in the petrol station and RE3 remake started in Jill's apartment, I would expect a new RE1 remake to start in Racoon Forest and this time we would manually search the forest for Bravo team' chopper. Playing as Jill you would find Joseph being mauled by the dogs... playing as Chris you would hear the gun shots and go help Jill... then run to the mansion etc...
Having a canon ending. Funny enough, this RE1 has 10 endings, in which none of them are canon. The canon ending would be one in which you would be able to leave the mansion with Brad, Jill, Chris, Barry and Rebecca... They are the officially 5 survivors of the incident mentioned in later games, but playing this you can only either save Chris, Jill and Rebecca... or Jill, Chris and Barry.. never all 5.
I'd also like them to explore Crimson Heads and Lisa Trevor more.... giving them more presence. Lisa Trevor was pretty much the best new addition of this remake, but her ending was pretty underwhelming and silly. They could do more with that.
Lastly.. what if (not likely) but what if... they added a third campaign, after beating the game or as DLC, in which you play as Wesker. There was always this mystery of what was Wesker doing during the game and his quick encounters with Chris... A mini campaign as Wesker as you put his plans in motion and set the stage would be interesting to see. They played with the idea a bit in Umbrella Chronicles, but it could be explored in a new remake.
.. and at the end of the day, this version will still be here for us to revisit.
Like or not.. there are plenty of reasons to remake RE1 again.
But hey... I have the feeling you didn't like RE7 either and that is Capcom moving on. These remakes are not stopping Capcom from progressing with the franchise. RE8 has been in development all this time.. they have multiple studios working on RE games. I speak for myself, but I can never have too many Re games and I rather remake/reimagining of the classics than spin offs such Revelations 1 and 2.
Besides.. your hate for the RE engine is just silly and juvenile. Feels like a waste of my time that I even tried to start a discussion about the positives a new RE1 remake could explore with someone who is just angry and stuck with negativity.
fixed camera is what made resident evil great and unique, all OTS RE games failed to bring the same great atmosphere that the original games has . ..
fixed camera makes RE games scary and tense . it add so much to the atmosphere. it makes every step you take could result in a scary event or scary encounter with some monster . this style puts the player in stress all the time. OTS failed to bring that . and we've all seen how poorly the new remakes are in this regard.
tech limitations?? this is not true . they could've make RE games in 3d like tomb raider games but they realized that fixed camera style achieves the ideas better. like the dogs jumpscare for example . its so effective because of the camera style. it puts your eyes in somethings in the environment that you'll not notice in the OTS style or 1st person style like window for example , the camera tells you that this window might be broke at any moment. this will make you nervous when you passing by this window every time. OTS can't make something like this.
I played ALL Resident Evil games, with the exception of Code Veronica.
And I believe, that one day Capcom will remake the 2 jewels RE1 + RE0. They can keep all the puzzles or make some of them in RE0 more logic.
And overall:
Nobody is forced to play a remake. Who would dislike it, can stay with this remake, we all have.
I've been playing the RE1 remake for the past couple weeks. I don't prefer that style.
I always thought that it was the story and the characters that made RE unique. Th overall package. Not just the camera.
I see every game as more of a simulation that allows you to exist in that world. That's why I play games. The jumpscares you're talking about, I guess I just don't put much value on that specific element. I can appreciate it and I did in the originals. I just always wanted more of a reality experience. Since the 1st time I played RE1 in 96, I loved it, but I wanted a more realistic experience in that environment. I looked at the prerendered backgrounds and fixed camera perspective as less than desireable but necessary because technology in the 90's couldn't offer that same graphic quality in a real time rendered full 3D game. But it surpasses it now. So I would enjoy it less if I was forced to have to deal with those same things in a modern remake.
It would've been incredibly dissapointing to me.
