RE series in general and 'cheating' with walkthroughs
I beat RE7 with no walkthrough the first playthrough in 8 hours. After that, I speedrun each time in under 4 hours. I also accomplished madhouse with help of the bobble head unlocks etc. Yesterday I beat RE3 but it was somewhat frustrating because I referred to a walkthrough on youtube the ENTIRE time, so it took away the frustration of wandering back and forth being chased by nemesis but also made it kind of a boring playthrough. Resident Evil 2 I've played so much growing up, I don't need a walkthrough except for some brainfart stuck parts which are few and far between.

Does anyone else feel beating an RE game without a walkthrough is intimidating? I beat REmake as Jill with the walkthrough and want to try it again as Chris.

I have a golden rule for myself when it comes to videogames: No guides during first playthrough.

RE games were never that hard to figure out by yourself, and having a fresh and blind playthrough is a great experience that you can have only once in a game. And feeling lost and scared, not knowing what to do and where you'll go next is one of the main points in a Survival Horror game.

Guides and walkthroughs basically kill your chance to experience that. So that's why I only look for them after I've beaten the game myself at least once to know if there's any optional stuff or easter egg I may have missed or to watch other players' strategies to learn from them and improve my playstile.

i am an old school gamer, but simply you are wasting your time and money kid, doing walktrough on single player game, is cancer, and worse if the game is resident evil, simply you can not call yourself a gamer ,if you cheat like that, you ruin the first impression the game try to offer!
i remmber the first time i played resident evil was 1997 , the magazines with walktrough didnt exist, and less internet, or wasnt accesible for me.
i beated it with both characters , and the feel the game imprint on me ,was incredible, more like a vivid experience, i never expected zombies to appear in the game... so was everything a terryfing adn an amazing surprise, i would erase my memory to try to relive those feelings.. the mystery , the unknown behind that door, was amazing.
surely more old people lived those experiences that come before, with alone in the dark.

I think Resident Evil 7 is perfectly playable without a walkthrough, the puzzles are straightforward, maybe on the the first battle with Jack it's easy to make mistakes but otherwise you can figure things out and finish it. The first Resident Evil is different, I remember playing it as a kid and definitely checked out gamefaqs once or twice when I was completely stuck (moonlight sonata!), walkthroughs are fine if you're completely stuck but usually it's more fun failing a few times and figuring things out yourself

I'm also an old-school gamer, and in the "old days" walkthroughs were like science fiction. You HAD to figure out things by yourself. Or with the help of your friends. Nowadays, you can never get that feeling again. But I do make a point of beating a game at least once before resorting to a walkthrough, at the very least regarding games with multiple endings..
