Yeah that was my point, but I'd be fine with it aslong as they take note and don't do it again :P
There's no excuse really, event starts on the hour, every hour, and lasts 20 minutes, unless there is some kind of game breaking bug that they have the urgently bring the servers down for, just wait until the 40 minute period between the event to bring servers down.
It's not very organized, really.
Scheduled maintenances beat unscheduled ones. Even tough I get that the servers are needing some stuff, it should be like the guy mentioned one post above:
Those cases could also have contained a rope, a stool, and a ceilling fan, but as you said, ya never know RNG.
