If you notice, what Steam does for Trove is launching the Glyph launcher then you hit play to get into Trove. Trove is technically not connected with Steam so it's apart from other games. You can also download the Glyph launcher itself to play the other Trion World games.
I get it in games like TF2 for example, you can change your profile name on your Steam account then it would apply since TF2 is basically only run by downloading Steam and well, it has VAC severs which is also run by Steam. For Trove, it does not follow that along with the other Trion World games.
Even other MMORPGs on Steam like Tera nor Aion would mostly likely behave the same as Trove since those games I listed were pretty much released by having their own launcher rather than using Steam. Steam for me seems like a great way to count your hours.
If you're going to get upset over this, then go play TF2 or a game that allows you to change your name by changing your Steam profile name.
The only similarities is that combat, shooting, and swinging exist in both games
I'm not trying to compare. I'm using TF2 as an example.
If you actually read the entire thread, he's upset over how you have to pay real money to change your in game name. For TF2, you can pretty much change your name anytime you want to through changing your Steam profile name.
If he wants to change names all the time, I gave him a suggestion.
We CAN do it so we know it can be done, it's just not done for free for some odd reason
That's why you pick the ign you want to stand by with. It's like that with a lot of other games. I remember it clearly states to pick the name you to want to use to avoid changing your name again when you first create your account. I actually like how Trion implemented a name tag in Trove because all the other MMORPGs I've played, there's not really a way to change your name but to start fresh by making a new account.
There's already a lot of whiny children complaining about Trove actually on their recent changes. Not the name tag though. You're the first thread I have seen who complained about the name tags.
It wasn't a big enough issue to post about it without any provacation
But yes, I do agree that it is both unneccasary and mildly scummy
Microsoft will let you change you name but they charge for it, it isn't free and last I looked it wasn't even that cheap. I don't know about sony but if they offer it I would assume they do as well.
Steam is the execption, not the rule for easy name changing. On fourms and other sites you frequently need to subit a request for a name change, if its even possible/allowed on them.
To date every single MMO I have played that offers name changes charges for them and they are almost never cheap, TF2 is more of a Steam extenstion than an MMO.
So before you start bashing on a system, try to ask why it exists to understand the functionality of it first rather then make a thread and name calling Trion.
