It is definitely worth the time to get back into it. Events and Updates seem to be on the regular 😺
Just visit the Hub NPC with purple ! Or dig Youtube/Google for important unteached mechanic, such as "How to maximize DPS on gems" and "Geode Metamatter".
The situation of this game is mainly solo grind fest, where you use a 35k PR farming class to roam Uber 10 Topside for daily 5* completion and high Magic Find Stellar drop (flux); or doing weekly 18 Depths Delves for Lunar Souls.
As contrast to what previous user said, this game do have event, but most are just filler, short and comes with Credit packs that ruins F2P players getting a Patron. Which significantly helps on Cubits, Chaos Chest, daily bonus and mainly dragon completion.
(Casual players complain how to earn flux and ignored this important long term mechanic)
What makes this game slowly less worth to play is bcs like I said, you won't have wide enough content to grind flux, while a lot of class cannot fit into 100+ hours of Delves/Farming meta. You can feel free to use other class, but if you're casual on gems mechanic, it is going to be a big pain, trusts me.
And there have been many new events/updates in the game, but most are simply filler content that increase the mastery gap between the low and high mastery players. And holiday events have gotten lazier and lazier; most being recycled content from the previous year.
In addition, the game is becoming increasingly more p2w. They've been releasing so many packs at once that require credit pouches it causes a shift of balance in the flux economy pushing up the credit prices so high that a lot of people aren't even able to afford to buy the packs the f2p way by the time they're yanked off of the store.
Plus, if you're returning for content like shadow tower, you will be quite sad to see that shadow tower is obsolete. You can still play it, but they moved rewards from shadow tower into new content called delves. And delves have a whole new layer of RNG added to them called mementos. Filler mastery you have to farm so many hours in order to get a particular one missing from your collection.
The game has just been going on an increasingly downward spiral since gamigo bought out trion.
The old ST layout was way more creative, such as Clock Tower and spiral passageway with a shortcut that 90% of Trovians don't know. What's more importantly is that you can hunt World Boss for the drops, aka Shadow Shards + gear (flux).

This is what you call as "fun", bcs it also involves route planning and when to trigger ultimate. Plus,
I cannot stress this more than enough:
Look at this:

Even if we are willing to farm flux, like I said, we are out of reliable content to farm. U10 Topside spamming and Tuesday exclusive aren't what we really wanted. We wanted something that can still progress our characters while still making fortune. Shadow Tower helps on that thanks to Shadow Caches and Voiddragon Egg Fragment, but not the terrible gear drop quantity inside Delves.
