How to grow grass efficiently

I won't beat around the bush: growing grass with dirt is horrendously slow and an absolute pain up the behind, especially when working with floating structures.

Luckily there is a simple alternative: mimic blocks. Just simply place the mimic block against a face of the grass block you want, then build a snake of grass blocks out of there. The mimic blocks will mimic the grass blocks most of the time and you'll be done in no time, even if the blocks are clunky every ones in a while.
