How do I unlock missing units/levels?

Ola,

I bought the basic edition of call to arms, only to find out I'm missing certain troops and maps compared to my friend who also has the game. For example the german faction:

It seems like the transparent units are ones I need to unlock through leveling up.
I am guessing the missing troops need to be unlocked through dlcs? I've looked at all the different editions of the game and the seasonpass but its pretty confusing. Some people say you can get all the factions by playing, so i wouldnt need to buy a different edition?

Can someone enlight me on how all of this works?

you earn xp to level up the factions by using the faction you want to level up either in skimishes against the AI or in multiplayer matches.

you immediately unlock all the units at faction level 0 if you buy the season pass.

So just to be sure, you can get everything the other editions can get by just playing, no?

unit wise yes but since the UAF, the REBELS, GERMANY and RUSSIA are all DLC factions you cant use them in the conquest game mode unless you buy the season pass.

you also dont have access to the GRM, GERMAN and RUSSIAN singleplayer campaigns.
