How does 800+ infantry and like 76 vehicles, including Helis, tanks, BTRs, BMPs, trucks, and technicals sound?
oh and you only get like maybe a platoon sized element to fight it all lol.
But fo real though, I wish the AI were smarter to, I spend most of my time making sure my AI dont do something stupid, rather than fighting the enemy AI. Enemy AI are so bad as soon as their vehicle sees you, it wont move until you or it dies. Its sitting an MBT side on to your line of MBTs? Oh well, it wont turn or move till its resolved.
Current AI already has good aim, but lacks strategy. If you add strategy and various tactics that AI will use it will make gameplay frustrating. Imagine playing against smart human opponent. What usually happens is rage-quitting and looking for easier games....
I wish for better AI and coding for this game in general.
Things id love to see stop: Order my guy to deploy C4, I order him and his squad back to a wall, he instead strokes out and randomly stutter steps around in complete ignorance of my order.
I give my vehicle a move facing order, it either doesnt move at all, like wtf....Or, it will move to where I told it, but it wont actually face properly. Nothing like 4 tanks showing up to a fight and despite all 4 being given facing orders, 2 are sitting side on, 1 is stuck on a wall and hte 3rd is facing the right way, but has the turret pointing backwards towards the moon....
I give my vehicle a move order and instead of it doing a simple straight line to where it goes, it goes left, right, reverse, 360 turn, 180 turn, stop, pause, reverse, turn, get stuck on a rock, turn, back up left, left, right, left, right and then proceeds to somehow eventually get to where I told it to go. All that to go like 3 tank lengths when it coulda been a straight line lol....
Alternately, when I give my vehicle a move order and it *does* invariably get stuck on something, cuz wtf AI driving, that the AI is smart enough to back up and get OFF the object and continue driving....hell, I recall Men of War AI being smart enough to stop, reverse, turn and proceed as normal...
Infantry when I give them a move order, instead of a simple straight line to the location, they like to walk in wildly huge arcs, follow roads, or something, but they always seem to take a suuuper long way, and often really dumb way to the locations....gets many a guy shot dead cuz I dont have time to baby sit that squad while ive got 3 other cap zones and 20 squads/vehicles to manage.
Engineers when they get bumped while deploying sandbags, that instead of stopping thier build, they restart their build with the same progress they had when they got bumped. Instead, they get bumped and thye will stop building. Or, they will finish a build and restart building the same sand bag.
Oh, I wish for vehicles to stop driving over my defenses. Spend 5 minutes deploying defensive works and I order a vehicle to move and it makes sure it drives over half of the sandbags before proceeding where I told it to go....often times, ignoring shift clicked move orders to do it.
Im over 1000 hours in this game and I never really fight the enemy AI, I fight my own guys. The list of absolutely rage inducing things in this game is near endless.
Be careful what we wish for, no, this is a wish I wish upon a star for. This game could be truly something else if the AI were not smoldering hot garbage.
Not to repeat what was already said, this is exactly how I feel about these things too.
I usually have to fight my own units, before I get a chance engaging with enemy AI. There is nothing that annoys me more in CTA, than a squad of friendlies completely ignoring a single enemy soldier that is standing right next to them, killing one after another. Or getting tanks, infantry, or any other unit stuck because of ridiculous path-finding.
When it comes to enemy AI, I just wish they would use more strategy, tactics, not too much of course, but according to game's difficulty setting. Having enemies that are staying still in an open field, an enemy tank that is not moving at all, gets quite boring.
Conquest mode they use all the vehicle types lol. Those MP modes I think the reason they dont use more vehicles is the point limits are to low.
Maaan, whats more, is as I sit here and watch the differences between my AI and enemy AI, the ENEMY AI act like how i WISH my AI acted in a few cases.
I sit here watching my tanks getting shot over and over and over and over and over and over as my tanks just sit there and take it, with clear, or relatively unobstructed line of fire to the target. The enemy AI will fire at tips, and corners, little bits sticking out around corners and stuff. My AI dont seem to like to shoot unless the target is 110% out in the open, so they can target directly center mass and even then, its questionable on whether they will shoot.
Infantry, I notice enemy AI throw grenades and not only do they throw grenades, they throw grenades OVER cover and repeatedly. My guys, I tell them to throw grenades they always wanna walk up to the enemy and hand it to them. Hand grenade, so I guess that means put it in thier hand, am I right?
Have you tried to turn on AI for your friendly units? Essentially just because these units are under your command they use same AI as enemies. Difference is in if your AI units are able to move to get into position of fire. I understand that player commands units to stay in specific area, but due to particular limitations in game (I strongly suspect it is path finding, which relates to finding correct visible path to enemy units) the units simply cannot fire.
How do I "Turn on AI"? I thought the AI was on by default......
Unless you mean the editor option of User: AI or Player.....that I cant do in Conquest.
And how would the unit be unable to fire? My unit is sitting behind the same obstacle the enemy AI is firing through. One would think if its blocked for me its blocked for them.....thats how Line of sight works.....
I found an AI only able to move forward and able to use AT equipment only if it's already on the map at the start.
Must have been playing another version of the game.
Not saying that this one is better tho, just that both are at the same level imo.
I didnt play AS2, but I did play the hell out of Men of War and while the AI there was *far* from anything resembling good, it did less of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I see in CTA.
In CTA, if your tank could shoot, it would. Maybe its a side effect of the shorter ranges in that game, but I didnt have half the "why wont you shoot" issue that I see in CTA. My AI, while they did have trash tier pathing quite often, its wasnt nearly as bad as this game.
Also, MOW had better QoL features like the ability to queue up a whole mine field instead of 1 at a time.
In all honesty, if I could figure out how to make the Morphine and rezzing work in the singleplayer, id go back and play that game again. I made a big ol mod there to. Id venture to say the ability to rez soldiers is about the best upgrade over Men of War series.
I abuse direct control as well, but when your trying to take control of 5 different cap zones and manage an entire battlefield, you cant possibly control everything. Thats when you need your AI to not suck complete soggy balls....
Ya go and setup sandbags, 2 5 man teams of infantry, a tank in support, a machinegun and a TOW at each location, check the line of fire, know its good and you think: Ok, they are set, I can go deal with this issue over here.... Then you come back and realize your tank is sitting there getting shot by a BTR cuz it wont shoot, 3 infantry are dead, cuz you missed it in the scrolling wave of kill feeds and were to caught up in your other actions to notice it......
Then, as you frantically try to clear up the immediate issue your dealing with on your right flank and have to go deal with the disaster unfolding on the left, you again, have to leave your AI on the right to fend for themselves for a couple minutes while you go try to salvage the trainwreck on your left flank. After getting that all situated, you sit back, take a breath and go, ok, what next. As you scan over the battlefield, you realize now your center is ♥♥♥♥♥♥, your tanks need repairs a couple sandbag walls were trashed, so now you get to play the clunky minigame that is "build the wall" and burn up 3 minutes when it should only take like 20 seconds. All the while, both your left and right flanks need attention. Your tanks need repair, but your tanks also need direct control to deal with the 3 tanks in front of them, that your tanks seem incapable of killing on thier own, so you direct control, again, wasting time, as 3 shots bounce, 1 shot misses and it takes like 8 shots to kill this 1 tank, and look, theres 2 more. and in that time, youve now lost a tank a full squad of men, a post is in danger of being over run and theres now another 2 tanks showed up...yay....
All the while, you spawn in a new platoon and order a tank to the center, a Bradley to the left and a squad to your right. You think, ok, this should be good. However, 3 minutes later, you realize your tank got stuck on a rock near cap and wont move, your bradley got yoinked on its way into the battle, cuz it took some stupid long way you NEVER told it to go and the infantry, they got to where you told them, but instead of getting on the wall as per the sillouhettes, they instead bunched up on the wall, so only like 1 guy can fire, and that squad got trashed by a single guy with an S12K....
and thats what its like to play this game....
