Is it just me?
I love MoWAS2, I think it's the best rts strategy game out there. All of the mechanics completely make the game just perfect, the direct control, the cover, independant inventory for each soldier, the ballistics etc. Just everything.

I bought Call to Arms ultimate edition almost 6 months ago to support the devs and show appreciation for the master piece MoWAS2 is, and of course see how this game would turn out.

But Call to Arms, is it just me or does it feel like something else? Infantry die like 4 times faster than MoWAS2 infantry. You get ridiculously small squads, ballistics feel weird, like you aim and start shooting at enemy infantry and the bullet should hit but it just doesn't, or it does but does so little damage while your troops get nailed down. Direct control is pretty meh now camera wise and shooting wise/control wise (ridiculous recoil/gun dispersion etc), everything feels so small and fragile, and animations feel clunky. There's also the annoying pathfinding of friendlies when you order them to throw a nade, sometimes they'll just walk in place back and forth.

I really want to love the game and see it as a spin off to MoWAS2, but I just can't. Help me change my mind and share your thoughts, it can't be just me.

Its like they took one step forward and two steps backwards

Hi Major, seeing this as a spin off from MoW will only disappoint. It is its own creation with different gameplay and features.

The devs have said that this is not a men of war game.It is something else.Keep in mind that the game is still in beta(not complete). The squads are small indeed and the maps are somewhat small for the increased range of the weapons(especially in domintaion matches) but with the introduction of 64 bit i think they are gonna fix alot of things in the future. The infantry die 4 times faster in hardcore mode.Without hardcore mode it takes a lot of time to kill infantry(i only play hardcore). What you say about aiming should be happening at long range, something quite realistic cause in real life at long range its not that easy to hit your target.Another problem is that you can aim at an enemy without knowing that he is out of range,at this occasion your bullets just have no effect. The main problem in my opinion is the lack of balance between direct control and non direct control(you can see enemies quite afar in DC etc.)The animations are clunky since the introduction of fire while moving, the animation is quite weird and totally unnatural.Pathfinding should be fixed soon.We can not compare a game in early access with a game that has reached full maturity.
WHY I LIKE IT SO FAR
It shows a lot of potential first of all ,the main thing you should look at a game in beta. Many features should be available in the future like fortifications and new armor damage system. It has
updated and superior graphics and effects to mowas 2,good infantry skins, vehicle, weapon models and sounds that are continously updated. Its in modern era which means a completely new approach to warfare and new tactics.Hardcore and rts mode so you can play anyway you want.1ST/3RD PERSON DC which is awesome, however as i mentioned it needs improvements.A lot of game modes are available(combined arms, domination, heroes etc.) too.

ok, compare the old/ classic direct control (DC) you have in MoWAS2 with the new feature first person shooter mode (FPS) (i consider FPS as just a better version of direction control). In the old DC, the aim of the soldier is tied to the motion of the soldier. So It was extremely hard to aim and orienate the soldier. The FPS mode on other hand is fully functional feature like the ones you see in pure FPS games like Battlefield and call of duty. The motion of the soldier is seperate from its aim. So it is very easy to orientate and aim.

THIS IS WHY I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE REASON WHY PEOPLE COMPLAIN ABOUT FPS MODE BEING USELESS (if FPS was useless, the old DC would be considered unuseable)

About your soldiers dying quickly, it is the FPS mode+ hardcore (This is the deadliest combimation, it requires different technique to play than the old play style in MOW). i have played many games, it is extremely easy for average players to control a militia with ak 47 in FPS mode to easily wipe out entire squad of marines in less than 30 seconds if the marines are not properly spread out and controlled.

So i don't understand what you are talking about when you say you can't shoot in FPS mode. Even many experienced players in this game admit FPS mode is OP, completely dominant over normal ai

just to make it clear, neither MoW nor this are RTS games, both are RTT games

Here is the thing, for me, MP matches are better in AS2 than in CtA. Gaming night with my friends start with CtA but end up with more games of King Tigers vs Centurion or vs T-34s.
When comparing these two games, CtA is much more technology advanced plus infantry is not dumb as in AS (thank you devs). What we found that CtA needs ASAP. More maps, more bigger maps. In AS2 we would charge each other with loads of tanks on these big maps, even perform tactical maneuvers. Ah Elefant and King are camping on central point of maps, attack flanks. Kings are camping on corners of the map, nail them with arty then rush with infantry. Plus good old head on attack with all you got, while having AT guns set in ambush, etc. And we don't play capture Flags. When comes to AI, Capture Flags are needed in order to make AI work, but for PvP that mod gets boring really quickly. As much as I like new units and new gagets, at this point, IMO it would be better to put hold onto new stuff and start working on maps. For start a simple maps with open fields, copy design of AS2 maps and make similiar ones in CtA. If possible just import them. Also I do agree that camera crosshair and barrel and not in the same level. I keep hitting ground/wall while my crosshair is on target.

Hi fox, i just finished converting bocage height Map and its in the workshop. Is there any particular map from AS2 that you would like to see reworked for download in the workshop. I could get cracking. I just replace the entities with call to arms entities.

This game needs more maps like ASAP its the main reason why the playerbase has died down so much because of the lack content. Instead of adding new units I would rather have seen 20 new maps with the same factions and maybe adding new units to the factions already in game but hey what do I know.

I have about 18 maps available for download. I think the Devs should concentrate on getting underpinning foundation sorted first before making addtional maps. As Map makers and Modders we cant fix the game for them but we can make the maps so i think Devs making maps is less urgent. Give some of my maps a go and see if that fills your urge for new maps.

I am sorry the mod maps arent for me I tried some most of them are buggy as hell or just crash the game not saying your maps would. Than there is the fact that not everyone is going to be subbed to that map aka youll need friends to add them and than you can play together. Also custom maps dont drop loot or give you exp last time I checked. Yeah I know its not that give a deal but still.

All they need to do is take a team of 2 people and have them work on maps for say 2-2 1/2 days out of each week and bam in a month you should have atleast 1-2 maps each month. If they did this I know atleast a handful of people that wouldnt have stopped playing. I mean just release a map every month its not that hard for them to do.

Instead they are more worried about adding new units aka new skins and adding weapons which any decent 3d modeler shouldnt take long to make there not designing new guns they are already modeled guns that they just need to remake there already have the blueprint for them its not like a sci fi gun where u need come up with an orginal idea.

Really they just want to add more factions and campaigns to try to make people spend more money instead of idk maybe keeping the playerbase you had happy while doing the other stuff. I would gladly have waiting an extra 2 months if they added 10 new maps.

Seriously when I use to play CTA heavy all I ever heard when I was in a pug group was I am so sick of playing the same maps over and over and over again which is why I stopped playing so much. Yeah they want to add more content cool I get it but add other content for the people who supported you like maps to make us keep coming back. There is only so many times someone going to play the same damn maps over and over before I just say ok new game time just like regular games would you play say call of duty campaign 300 times and actually enjoy it?

I think more maps with newer and more exoctic settings are on the way. Check out the editor. They added lot of new building assets.

Yeah alittle to late and the new building asset are probly for the new factions/armies which I would think/hope they will add new MP maps with them for free hopefully considering these devs are greedy as hell.

I feel the same way. All of the MOW games were amazing and I loved all of them esspecially the first MOW and MOW:AS2. And Yes the Devs changed pretty much everything. Now I love the unit models for all the factions. The infantry and vehicles look AMAZING but the maps are FAR too small, the ballistics are really weird, and the thing that really upsets me the most is the absolutley autistic pathfinding and moving that your infantry do in this game. Personally its the worst thing ive ever seen. You tell your soldiers to move and they are weird and clunky and uncooridinated and if you tell them to shoot at someone they will run up into there face or run into the open and just stand there starring at the enemy at literally point blank range and not shooting at all and then instantly get killed. Or if you tell a soldier to throw a grenade its esspecially bad because they just run out into the open and then run back and forth several times and then get killed. Ive seen a soldier take a grenade and run right next to an enemy and then throw it which kills your soldier also:steamfacepalm:. Not to mention that the visual effects and animations of the soldiers seem very clunky and weird and almost glitchy. Now the vehicle combat is still pretty much the same as the MOW games and its totally fine but the devs really need to work on the infanty combat and moving and animations. I really liked the infantry mechanics from the COH games they were smooth and good looking and IMHO were fantastic!!! Hopefully the devs will smooth things out later on. I hate too see this game be not as good when it has sooo much potential!

Sorry NO, absolutely not the COH infantry mechanics. i hate it. They group a bunch of soldiers into a single identity, when you have explosions, you can't split up and spread out your soldiers. That makes infantry combat so unrealistic. Furthermore, when you need to do a task that requires one soldier, you have to assign the whole squad. That is the reason i bought call to arms and instead COH. There is absolutely no indivduality in infantry combat of COH

My apologies I didnt mean the COH as in how the soldier squads worked. I meant that the animations and and firing and movement was far more smoother and easier on the eyes. I do like the individuality of CTA far more than how the soldiers are grouped in COH but as far as shooting, movement, and animations go COH is much better looking.
