Rappelling is NOT faster than landing the transport. Transport lands, everyone jumps out, transport takes off and moves to safe location or support position. Rappelling requires troops to "clip in", transport to remain motionless - so better hope there's no inclement weather - and you DAMN well better hope that there isn't so much as a hostile-with-a-rifle within shooting distance of a helicopter that's hovering defenseless above a hostile sector while squishy humans are dangling from lines. Then, the rappelling troops need to unclip themselves and their gear from the transport before they're combat-ready.
TL;DR: Landing helicopter transports is faster, safer and more effective than rappelling everywhere outside of Hollywood action-movies.
