DOOM: The Dark Ages

DOOM: The Dark Ages

MEGATRON 1 月 30 日 上午 10:30
I think this game is being treated too harshly by the community.
Please don't get upset on me for posting this, but i think the players are getting the wrong perspective.
This game will be entirely focused on campaign, which means, instead of spending half of the budget and time on multiplayer they are spending all of it on the campaign.
The system specifications are indeed expensive but this is all for a reason. This is a DOOM game of unprecedented scale, 32GB of RAM and 100GB space required probably says enough about the size the maps will have. I know you are frustrated you may not be able to run the game, i am as well, but ID said this is the most ambitious project they have worked on. You can't possibly make a game of such large scale without needing superior hardware.

It is also expensive, but think about it, for a DOOM game 5 times bigger you have to pay 5 time more money, also ID software team could only have gotten bigger, these people need to be paid somehow.

I also read Mick Gordon's public note and i entirely agree that he was treated very unfairly, however, i see people mentioning that they will boycott the game because of this.
First I must say that this game is being developed by a huge team, not by Marty alone, second, boycotting this game will not help anyone. Third, if you buy a game you buy it to play it, not just to listen to its soundtrack.

these are the most pathetic ones
Honestly at the end of the day, I don't care about any of these dynamics outside of: is the game fun? It looks fun to me. I'm a forever Doom fan, unabashedly so, and they have never made a Doom I didn't enjoy. This looks to be more of that, and I'm stoked to experience the new gameplay loop and to explore more of the Doom universe.

I'm just waiting for benchmarks before preorder or purchase, as it's not 100% certain what sort of perf we'll see on procs with thread and core counts below what they've prescribed in the specs. I suspect we'll see good scaling at least on architectures with better IPC than those listed even with lower core counts, but we just don't know, so that's why I'm holding off. I want to see those benches.

Beyond that, the rest has nothing to do with me, and Mick himself specifically asked players not to withhold support for Eternal in his name.

it's almost as though people had very tenuous reasons for even liking the revival series in the first place

The revival series have outstanding graphics, fun gameplay mechanics and amazing soundtrack but also keep the things that made the classic games great.
There are a lot of reasons to like the revival series.

not saying that id software is long gone since they sold themselves to Zenimax, and most of the old folks left, but ok... :conwayshrug:
it is Bethesda now. about time to accept that i think. if you know the old id software and played the originals, we're old now... the games are not made for us anymore.

It is also expensive, but think about it, for a DOOM game 5 times bigger you have to pay 5 time more money, also ID software team could only have gotten bigger, these people need to be paid somehow. - uhm, that is some weird argument. sure they have to be paid, but the 80€ are not going to those making the game, in case that's what you think. those will get the same payment as if the game would still be 50€. those prices are made by the greedy shareholders and such, and i won't support those POS with my hard earned money.

besides that, the game will be on game pass, so they won't get their 80€ fairytale price from me anyway. then, if i really want to keep it, it will be in a bundle eventually. i will also see this as (yet another) reboot, because this game has nothing to do with the last 2 imo.

That i must admit that i did not think of. Greed today is infernal. Thanks for telling me.

no problem. greed destroys and continues to destroy good stuff way too often. that's why i mostly play and support indie games and devs these days (well for years already). they oftentimes but much more effort and love into their games, and their prices make sense.

the big ones? they have enough money to burn. they also stopped listening or caring for us. so the only way left to make ourselves heard is by not buying their overpriced games.

sniper elite (resistance) just released a new game. yeah i know, might not be similar to DOOM and not for everyone, but it costs 49.99€ for the base game and 79.99€ for the deluxe with extras. not sure why it is cheaper than the 5th game though. but apparently it's possible to still release 50€ games in 2025.

100gb space required means they left everything uncompressed as a sloppy and lazy anti piracy measure. People are tired of rewarding intentional idiocy and intentional breaking of things.

The original Doom games are like 5000000 times bigger than this game will be. For free.

are you kidding? this is definitely not the first game with that size... textures also get bigger and need more space, besides the other assets that get bigger because of their quality.

everything uncompressed... you don't know much about how games work it seems.

Given that Eternal is about 90gb and the music is left compressed, this kinda destroys your argument. It was a dumb argument to begin with though

The fact that you think only music can be compressed shows why you should not enter arguments in general in life. You do this a lot I'm certain though
