Please implement a benchmark.
I'm a fan of Doom. I'm a fan of Vulkan. I'm a fan of efficient game engines. And I'm a fan of high-end GPUs. I really want a benchmark integrated with the game.
When a game has a benchmark, the game is used to test hardware. When people use the game to test hardware, the game gets better coverage. When a game gets better coverage, it sells more.

Quake III Arena has been used for benchmarking for ages.
I want Doom: The Dark Ages in the same league.

This seems pretty reasonable to me. And I think it's well within id's wheelhouse.

Both 2016 and Eternal have an integrated benchmark.
Agreed. Even Quake 3 Arena had one as well as already mentioned. Was very useful in accordance to its contemporary hardware back then.
Its a quick way to determine if gaming on a potato.

Why bother if you are going to buy the game already? Perhaps DOOM The Dark Ages should have a free standalone benchmark tool so anyone could download and run it before deciding to buy the game or not, for example: https://store.steampowered.com/app/229950/Resident_Evil_6_Benchmark_Tool/

No, they haven't.

Because I don't use game benchmarks to test if the game runs, I solve that problem by buying top-of-the-line hardware, not by running benchmarks. I use benchmarks to compare hardware components. Additionally, maintaining two separate applications has disadvantages. The benchmark must be updated separately each time a new patch is released, even if the patch only updates assets. Also, when you make custom settings for a particular application, having a separate benchmark force you to apply those settings twice. Therefore, an integrated benchmark is far better than a standalone application.

id Software has changed a lot since being acquired by Bethesda. They no longer release the source code of their games, they don't make a version for Linux anymore, and their game support has become more limited compared to the past. Although they still make good games, I no longer find the love they put into their work during John Carmack's time. That's why I'm asking for a benchmark. Because I'm sure they won't make it without people asking.

I mean, the tools they released for Eternal was definitely a good step in the right direction, and they didn't release idtech 4 until 7 years after Doom 3 released. And I would imagine idtech 6 and 7 are far more advanced than 4 or the iterations before it, so without the aforementioned tools the newest engines would be difficult to work with anyways.

Id changed pretty dramatically after Quake 1 released, and they changed again after Zenimax bought the studio. And I expect they'll change again now that M$ owns them. That's just how the industry evolves.
