DOOM: The Dark Ages

I'm just so confused about the Doom Slayer
So people in other threads said Doom Eternal slayer is the same marine in Doom 1/2, which means he's Flynn Taggart.
Isn't the Doom marine just Earth Gov military marine (presumably NATO marine iirc he's an American)?

Then in Eternal, some doctor from the codex said he's like some ancient godlike warrior that has fought the demon hoard for millions of years or something.

On the other hand, according to the Praetor Suit texture files in Doom 2016, it was manufactured by an arms company, with the logo of the company on it and serial numbers.

Now we're seeing medieval ancient mythical stuff in what looks like an alien race war between the heaven and the hell.

I'm just so lost now. Isn't the Doom Marine an American military born in 21XX? How the hell does it work?

Anyway, I'm starting to miss the pre-Eternal vibe. Doom Marine was supposed to be that faceless silent soldier who fights against all odds from the bottom to the top. Sort of like the old Halo Master Chief.
Now he's being sculptured like some ancient god warrior hero idk.

He's supposed to be a down to earth human soldier that saves the world with his incredible resilience and bravery.

Btw I hope buttstroke melee from Doom 2016 will return tho.
The lazy punching animation for all weapon melee in Eternal is the same as the lazy universal knifing animation in older Call of Duty titles.

Okay, but the events he has experienced (Sentinel planet, Mars Invasion, in hell for enos) sounds like millions of years in terms of time scale.
It doesn't seem like Doom 1 and Doom Eternal are millions of years apart.
I'm guessing time in hell goes incredibly slow so the Marine was trapped there and tormented for thousands of years but it was actually just a few years for the Earth time?
yeah he's been alive for quite a while. and you're absolutely right, time in hell works differently. eons in hell is just a few years for Earth time like you say.
Well, ♥♥♥♥. That's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up :(((((

That's how it's always been in the Doom games. What could be millions of years on Earth could be just a few days in Hell, and vice versa.

Damn... it all makes sense now.

Imagine going AWOL in 2100, went through hell, fought for the angels for thousands of years to contain the demon horde, got captured and tortured for god knows how many years, then returned to Earth to see it's 2105.

Yeah, this is what happens when you try to connect a 30 year old triology to a modern reboot made by a very different group of people: it can easily evolve into lore ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

The Dark Ages is supposed to be a prequel to 2016. I hope they use it to properly tie everything together.

There are different timelines as work due to the nature of Hell.

I'm not holding my breath on that. The real Q is how much of the Doom fanbase are about the lore, and how much are just about ripping and tearing.

So basically, he is the same guy and the reason this can work is because after DOOM 64 he stayed in Hell which is a timeless dimension between dimensions and somehow got teleported to Argent D'nur. And after some time of fighting along side of the Sentinels he got boosted by the divinity machine.

And yes he skipped dimensions so the Earth he's fighting on in Eternal isn't the same Earth he's fighting on in DOOM 2.

True, but I feel the Slayer assumed the Earth in the new universe would be very similar to the one he fought in Doom 2.

Not really a big fan of multiverse setting, but I guess it is what it is :/
There's room to headcanon it in various ways if you choose to. Tons of fan theories about this abound. Especially with all the multiversal stuff that already goes on in the Idverse so to speak. But in simplest terms, Doom Eternal pretty much made it canon that 2016 and Eternal's Doomslayer is the same Doomguy from Doom 64, and that Doomguy is the same Doomguy from the classic Dooms. Doom 3 is sort of its own thing. It was originally intended as a reboot of sorts, despite its numerical label. Though if you really want to, you can headcanon your way for fun to saying that at some point the ancient species referenced in 3 witnesses the Doomslayer through some manner of interdimensional shenanigans. But 3's Marine and Doomslayer aren't - if you go strictly by what the games depict at least - the same character.

IPLAYED DOOM IN 1996 when i got my first pc when iwas 9 years old since then i have played all other doom games many times. 3, resurrection of evil 2016 and eternal on release date
We know that the marine in 1,2 final doom and 64 is the same yes. But in 3 and resurrection of evil is different

.Also we know that 2016 DOOM is after the events of doom doom2 final doom and doom 64 but we dont know if it is before or after the events of doom 3 and ressurection of evil
.Since in the 1990s dooms humans already are in the future where humans are on mars and opend the portal to hell. I wonder how much years after the events of doom doom 2 final doom and doom 64 are doom 2016 and doom eternal? We cant be sure that the 2016 doom slayer is the same from the 1900s 4 doom games. Just like the doom 3 and doom3 resurrection of evil marines are not the same. are doom 3 events before or after doom 64? before or after doom 2016?

No I mean we literally see his face in the HUD in classic doom... which is the same face in Doom Eternal.

He was a normal military dude for about 3 entire games. It makes sense that he would be so dedicated to what he does he just evolves beyond just a soldier... he became the force that keeps hell in check after fighting for eons.
Yes, I know. He doesn't wear a helmet in Doom 3 either and we can see his face in cutscenes.
There's also a theory saying Doom Marine is Wolfenstein's BJ III.

But my problem is how did he fight the demon hoard for eternity? He's a dude born in 21XX.
Unless the aliens ♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the time and space stuff so Doom Marine got trapped in time.
If that's the case, then it's pretty ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up. I feel bad for Doom Marine.

Doomguy is commander keens grandson, and bj is commander keens grandfather
