Any good tips on killing the chainsaw zombies?

I haven't taken them on in singleplayer mode yet but if I do make it
that far I would certainly like to know how to deal with them.
How many headshots does it take to take them down?
Or is there another way to kill them more efficiently?

The main tip is not to fear them. They are slow, blind and can hardly damage you.

They can hardly damage you??
With those chainsaws they wield that's hard to believe.
I know they are slow, blind probably but I do think they can damage
you pretty good if they caught you.

Get too close, chop you in half, it takes a lot of shots to kill them., easier with a Preacher.
Try booby trapping them first with land mines, explosives etc. (should weaken them), they are slow get some distance from them and head shots (once you get rid of his head guard).
Preacher is the best, though you do have to be quite close and be ready to move quick.

Then I'll make sure to get the preacher shotgun to deal with them.

Try to get them to charge at you, cause then it seemed like they would follow-up with an attack that made them point the chainsaw up and then come down hard with it and if it missed it would get stuck in the ground for several seconds, plenty of time to unload the shotty into them then.

use the M1 garand... lower power but 15 round semi auto... easy for quick streams of headshots.... preacher always a winner though but its only really holy crap effective at point blank range

Lower power and 15 rounds would be the M1 Carbine...

I do use the garand rifle although I like the Gewehr 43 better.
I prefer shooting zombies from far away as possible.
The thing about using the shotgun is that means I have to get
pretty damn close to my target in order to use it effectively.

Use the bultaska in short 5 or 6 round busts while aiming it do not just hold trigger down, or you will get way off target. The burst effect does wonders and keeps it deadly on target

Always keep moving when they show up. They're ridiculous bullet sponges but are never a real threat....unless you run out of ammo.
