Game keeps crashing
I bought this yesterday and I honestly really love what I'm playing so far, problem is though I'm only able to enjoy about 5 minutes of gameplay before the game randomly crashes and giving me the "ZAT.exe has stopped working" error message. I honestly don't know what to do, but I heard that I can check the game's error logs and fix a .dll file but I don't know where the logs would be located. Anyone know the directory or happens to have a different method?

I have a NIVIDIA GeForce GTX 965M with Windows 10 and a Intel CORE i7.

dont know the location of the log that you mentiond.
if the game loads and you are able to play for few minutes, maybe your gpu/cpu
get too warm, track the temperture of your cpu/gpu, you can check it with small tool called cpuz, or with the packages that came with your hardware.

just to be sure its not also the drive faults, try moving the game to another drive.

When games crash they usually create an error log detailing the issue(s) that caused the game to crash and put it somewhere on the computer, but I don't know where the game puts the logs. It's usually either in Steam's directory or the game's directory. If it's a GPU/CPU problem maybe I have to lower the graphics settings?

I turned down the graphics settings and so far no crashes, I'm only on the menu though since that's when the game crashed the second time.

the ideal way is to close every program that you dont need in task manager.
even programs you may not think cause interfirence like shortcut tools or something that run's in the background for your convinence.

if you dont find the log the game creates, try maybe the Windows Event Log.
i dont know what you gonna find there though.

I'll keep that in mind next time. Thank you. I'll also try taking a look at Windows Event Log to see if i get anything.

So I've tried everything I could and no luck. The game keeps crashing, I close every unimportant background process with Task Manager, dumb down the graphics, play in windowed mode, uninstall and reinstall, verify game cache, update audio and graphics drivers, and nothing has worked. Help?

well, if nothing works and i mean nothing.....
there is always the final resort if you have the patience, reinstall a fresh copy of windows.
you can backup your existing c:\ partition with Acronis or similar programs, and just format and install windows, then drivers and see if game crashes.(i think it wont after this)

in case it really wont work on the new windows installment you can restore your partition in no time from the backup you did.
(i think backup will take 15min depeneds on your pc and if you didn't put lots of data on it like videos, and restore around 7min)
if you dont put large files on c drive then it should be between 60-100gb which is not a lot time to backup with raw backup programs like Acronis or Ghost or any other current tools.

in any case this process will be good cause if you do fix the problem that way, know that
the fresh copy is free of bug's and it will be good even for other games, and overall performence.

ugh, if that's what I have to do then I may just have to, unless I decide to get a refund which it isn't too late for.

Did you try to verify integrity of game cache? Try this and see where that gets you.:2016imnotcrying:

I've done that already, numerous times

just for info, i read somewhere that windows 10 update will bring a "Game Mode"
it will free up memory and enable smooth gaming.
maybe if we had that mode, it would shed more light on the problem, memory/cpu wise.

from December 29,2016 , it says that this mode may arrive on spring.

Sounds promising, that MAY resolve the issue or it may not. We'll have to wait and see.

I know that this thread is old and 12th gen CPUs didn't exist back then, but... If you have a gen 12 Intel CPU or above, try this fix:

First, you must know which cores are the efficient cores of your CPU. Download Process Lasso from the official website and once installed execute it. Open the game with Process Lasso opened and alt-tab. In Process Lasso select "Active Processes" and then right-click ZAT.exe. Click on CPU Affinity -> Always -> Select Affinity. The Efficient cores are the numbers with an "E" next to them. Now you can uninstall Process Lasso.

Then, write "msconfig" on the Windows search bar and select the app. After that, select the "Boot" tab and click on "Advanced Options". After that, toggle the "Number of Processors" box and select the processors that are not efficient cores. In my case they were 16. Restart your computer and it should be solved.

To get back to normal just repeat the same process and untoggle the "Number of Processors" box and restart.
