NoLimits 2 does not launch

This post tries to help for the case when you click on the Play button and nothing happens. From my experience there are typically two reasons for it:

Does not launch after an update
If it used to work, but after an update suddenly stops working, most likely this is caused by built-in Windows/Mac Security which blocks the new update to run. Uninstalling and reinstalling NoLimits 2 inside Steam might help in that case.

Does not launch after a fresh install (Windows only)
If it was installed for the first time, and does not launch, most likely some required runtime DLLs are not installed correctly. Normally everything that is required should be installed automatically when Steam installs the game, but sometimes it does not do it properly for some reason. In most cases the VisualC++ runtime is not installed properly. Here is the link to the download from Microsoft: Microsoft VC++ Redistributable Runtime 64Bit[aka.ms]

Windows only: If it still does not launch after trying to unistall or reinstall or installing the VC++ runtime, it may help to get a better understanding why it does not launch. This can be done by trying to launch it directly by clicking on the NoLimits 2 exe file, instead of launching it through the Steam Play button. This may show some kind of error message which helps to fix the problem better.

The exe file is typically installed by Steam inside the Steam library (default location: 'C:\Program Files\Steam'):

in 'Steam\steamapps\common\NoLimits2\64bit\NoLimits2stm.exe'

or

'Steam\steamapps\common\NoLimits2\32bit\NoLimits2stm.exe'

Double click on the exe file while Steam is started and active in the background, and it will tell you more about why the program could not be started. WARNING: if it tells you that a specific DLL could not be found, DO NOT google the internet and DO NOT try to install that DLL by yourself. Just email support ([e-mail]) and tell them what the error message is exactly and support will give you a more reliable instruction how to proceed in order to fix the problem properly. Most likely one of the required runtimes is not installed correctly.

This issue is most likely caused by Windows Security which sometimes block the execution of the NoLimits 2 exe file after an update. Try disabling a security feature called "Controlled Folder Access"...

In Windows, click on Start...
-> Settings
-> Updates & Security
-> Windows Security
-> Virus & Threat Protection
-> Under Virus & Threat Protection Settings, click on Manage settings
-> Manage Controlled Folder Access: Set to Off

Warning: changing this security feature will affect the whole computer. Change only at own risk.
