Ok so, I'm playing with game with a friend, and thus do not have hours as she is the one controlling the game.
However, I have to say this is quite possibly a gem

I don't know how intentional it is, but this is quite possibly the best representation of acute psychosis I have ever seen in any piece of media.
I am a paranoid schizophrenic and this genuinely is unsettling in a way that both hit the nail perfectly and was presented in a absorbable, beautiful, and honestly special-interest attracting way

You somehow made a horror game that not only made me giddy to experience, but also perfectly represents the experience of a psychotic break. I cannot wait to see where the story goes.

PLEASE buy this game. You will relate to it, and you will be disturbed in a beautiful way.

If I could only use one word to describe this game it would be disappointing.

Personal opinion
I don't understand how this game has as many glowing reviews as it does, I'm a sucker for randomness in games when it's deterministic in such a way that I know I can potentially get x outcome when I do y thing. This game takes that to its most logical extreme and it just becomes an exercise in frustration on higher lunar levels (this games version of ascensions).

That being said, visually the game is unique; the story just seems like some edgy corner-of-the-internet humor.
Maybe it does say something profound but I couldn't care less about 'lore' in videogames; I'd rather just read a book.

Gameplay critique
At first I was really into it, now I don't know if this is purposely done but my first run took me about 2 hours
(the steam no questions asked refund window is 2 hours), taking my time doing the interactions just to get to the final fight and lose not realising what was to come.

No big deal, get back to the fight a second time and I lose because I find out there's no rest; it's a boss gauntlet after the triplets. Again, no big deal lets just get back a third time. Oh I was on a run that was rocking melee? silly me I should of spread my stats better, my mistake game.

Four attempts was how many it took to get a win, at no point after the first were any of the interactions meaningful. The text repeats so unless I missed something (Which to the games credit I may have) I don't get why I'd constantly talk to someone, it's unnecessary extra clicks.

Why did my victory feel so unfulfilling???

I felt like I wasn't making choices, the game was deciding if it wanted me to do something and I just rolled with it almost like a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.
What I mean by that is, lets say you want an item from the shop but you have no money? Ok; choose to go to rooms that have encounters to generate money right? Well you could hit the chance of getting that encounter with nothing there? Alright wasted a turn and the game moved on; great.
Finally get your cash to spend but you need a shop? Alright lets go to the room with a shop; oh I kept getting the garbage event that does nothing for me wasting more time?
Guess what I need to heal; I know I need to heal so lets go there. No you just hit the fight that you can't win so you have to waste attempts escaping losing more health...

The game also features 'meta-progression' if you want to call it that, it's just mainly a few unlocks that after my limited playtime I had everything in the shop so why bother having it like that to begin with? I don't know.
I believe the currency you use for the progression can be traded to npcs to ask for heals or items if you want to do that mid-combat, but again you're just prolonging encounters and the process has way too many sub-menus to bother; did anyone QA test this? no one said:
"Hey after the first time doing this in an encounter we should speed this up for that one encounter??"

Closing thoughts
I'm not making this review to mock the game or bad mouth it, more of a warning to people who may be like me and saw the game and were interested in a turn based roguelike rpg; stay away. This isn't for me and it might not be for you either, it's basically just CBT at the end of the day.
