Thats not the problem, its annoying that everyone keeps saying that... I have emailed techland many times and get the same response or to go into regirsty and manually enter the cd key... which is stupid because its already there.. steam already does it for you when u install it...
its a server problem on techlands behalf, its not verifiying any of the CD keys when u buy the game through steam, simple
It still didnt work on my Win7 system, but when I tried the Steam version afterwords, IT WORKED - so I guess its the regestry key that made the steam version work, because when I tried to delete the folder with the non-steam version it said I COULDNT as it was open in another program - until I closed Steam... then it would delete, but by then I decided that it was probably this version that made the Steam version work, so I left the prorgram and only deleted the desktop shortcut. Harddisk space is cheap and the game is small.
BTW, I wrote to Techland, and got the word back that I needed to insert the key manually, and start the game by rightclicking and choosing run as admin... but of course you cannot insert the key manually on Steam versions, so apperantly they didnt know what the heck I was talking about.....
but they sent me a key for both GTI and XPand rally, so if you can find an XPand rally version s-o-m-e-w-h-e-r-e and install (and remember you PAID for your steam version) then mail to Techland with the problem and you can probably get a key from them that makes it all legal and fine as dandy.
OR - perhaps STEAM can help sorting this rediculous problem out - Please...
i suspect that fix is for the regular version of the game, steam however, stores the cdkeys in HKCU\software\valve\testapp****
one folder for each installed program, and i have no clue which folder is Xpand Rally
I think Steam should make it right as they probably messed up something. Hard to jump through the hoops to get a REAL Tech Support on a no profit old game.. but..it can be done..not now for me.. I just lost my full 1445 GB install of Games on Windows 8 because of a dying Hard Drive AND a Power company power spike that blasted my Old Motherboard and the Windows Recovery backup HD ..even with a giant Battery Back up and all its Spike Protection. Will later.
