Is this the same game as Shadowrun Returns?
Is it the same game with improvements and new content, or is it an entirely new game?

It's a game using an improved version of the Shadowrun Returns engine but the content is entirely new. Shadowrun Returns contained a campaign called Dead Man's Switch set in Seattle. Dragonfall is the 2nd campaign, set in Berlin with entirely different characters, plotline, etc.

Wow I always thought this was like a GOTY edition type thing going on. Glad I didn't buy this without playing the first one then lol

you can sorta update the Dead Man's switch stuff to dragonfall if you own both. By copying over some stuff.. but it' doens't fully update it.

Dead man's switch also features a cameo by the guy from the snes shadowrun game.

By using the word 'campaign' you have me wondering if these aren't complete games but missions of a game that will be complete once all of them are released and bought? Kinda like the walking dead games?

No, I was using the word campaign in the RPG sense of the word. A campaign is a complete self-contained game. Everything that occurs in Dead Man's Switch is 1 story. Everything that happens in Dragonfall is a separate, entirely different story. It's not episodic like the Walking Dead games.

So do I need Shadowrun Returns to experience the whole game?

Yes or no?

Thankyou Talon! exactly the answer i was looking for, i hope the moderators PIN this conversation to the main discussion board. It can't be a few that have NOT purchased the game due to thinking they already have it, or a older version. It looks like DLC but is a full game. Shame they can't write 'part 2 or ep.2'.

Thankyou once again for clearing the question. :B1:

They're different games with no relation to one another

Thanks everyone, just the question and the answers i was looking for. I just bought dragonfall directors cut now thinking it had both the campaigns. After reading this i bought shadow returns too as its a different campaign altogether.
