Patch 1.9 - Far Cry 4 is finally running well...

Hi,

Short Version: Damn, this game is actually running well now. Finally!

My specs: GTX 980 SLI - 4930k @4.1 GHZ - Win 8.1

I was gifted Far Cry 4 with the purchase of my two GTX 980s, and was astonished to discover, way back on day one, that Far Cry 4 was a complete mess. On my rig, I had Far Cry 3 running butter smooth at max settings with 8x anti-aliasing, so it came as quite a shock to discover that Far Cry 4 had unbearable stutter that was only alleviated somewhat after multiple patches.

The fact is, that for most SLI users there was a weird micro-stutter thing that never went away, no matter what you did.

You could lower every damned setting and the stutter was still there. The game just wasn't smooth.

I spent 15 hours tinkering with this game (not actually playing the damned game, mind you - but just tinkering with the settings) to no avail. Finally I just gave up on the thing completely, which was a huge shame since I love this series to death, and had heard good things about Far Cry 4 from those who were able to play it.

I'm pleased to report that the game is now playable.

I have the game running at max settings (with the exception of Soft Shadows) and, for the most part, I'm bang on at 60 FPS.

Here's the thing. The frame counter, for me, used to fluctuate between 59 and 60, and this produced terrible stutter. The frame counter is now solid at 60 - yes, there are times when I'm seeing 58, or 59, or 61, and yes there's sutter when that happens, but most of the time the game is running smooth at a rock steady 60 fps.

Keep in mind that I'm still near the start of the game, and haven't been to any big cities yet. But so far, the performance is a world of difference from what it was day one.

If you gave up on this game... and like me, didn't really want to... you might want to return and try again. I think you'll be happy with the results.

Oh, by the way...

1) With SLI enabled, the FOV slider still doesn't work.
2) With SLI you'll get flicker. There's a solution for this here at the forum. Just do a search for it.

Hopefull a proper FOV slider will be added for SLI. But at least the game is smooth now. I'm on a 21:9 setup, so it's not too bad.

(And let's not forget that even 21:9 wasn't working back on day one!)

Well... I have to tip my hat to Ubisoft. At least they didn't give up on this game. Yes it took them about six months to fix the game, but at least they did fix it - more or less.

Guys, I just visited Banapur village - that little starter village early in the game - and it was NEVER smooth for me there.

Now it is. Finally.

There's a very small amount of stutter when I go sideways, but if I travel forwards the game is pretty damned smooth - like it never was before.

ROFL, Shumy, this guy says, literally - I liked FarCry4 so much based on Youtube videos, it's so sad that I don't have my own PC to play it. Highly recommended!

i still get crashes,hangs,glitches with this game which makes it unplayable for me ATM.
BTW does anyone get this werid bug/glitch where it would randomly backout to the video settings by itself and freeze and later crash or not respond?

I didn't find a fix. I didn't do anything. I simply walked away from the game about two months ago.

Where were we at back in late December? At patch 1.5 or something?

I have no idea which patch fixed this game, but one of them did. Completely playable on SLI now.
