Ship XP
I think ship xp and leveling would be a good feature to add to the game. If ships had individual bonuses and levels it would give players a reason to play more carefully with thier units.

Just a request.

Agreed.

Agreed, I actually thought they were doing this but since we haven't heard any details about it I'm getting a bit worried.

Ship XP just serves to enhance the strength of a victorious empire, making them snowball faster. I dislike the idea that a fleet could emerge from a battle stronger than it went in.

It however gives attachment to fleets. Currently ships are pretty much throw away.

The bonus the XP gives does not have to be massive.

That's a good point, but at the same time it allows players with a tech disadvantage to improve their ships by preying on weaker enemies.

Once they level up a player could possibly go up against a technologically superior player and have a fighting chance due to his more experienced ships.

This is especially true for a technologically inferior but aggressive player that goes against a turtling but tech superior enemy whose ships haven't seen many fights.

you could ad that ships could turn into aces and with a max level of 3 or 4 where each level gives you the option to only make it 1 point stronger in defense or offense

I would prefer to see a racial "Military Experience" pool which isn't tied to individual ships. It provides bonuses to ship combat, increases from battles (won or lost), and but dwindles over time.

I don't like ship exp, because it get too many advantages to the player - AI will always use green noobs VS his hardcore elites.
But it will be good to see "medals" - some random chance with each battle that best ship (best tank / best DD) can get "promotion" which slightly increased it hp or shiels or even accuracy.

In MoO2, you could get colony leaders and ship captains that could gain experience. I think that system would work better than having the ships themselves gain experience.

I like that, you could do like the total war series and award good bonuses for things like winning a fight when you're outmatched or damaged, etc. Could help giving the underdog a fighting chance against a leading player.

I wouldn't mind seeing Heros again for fleets that level up with victories or more slowly orbiting a planet with some sort of "tactical officers base" tbh.

I think you're on to something good here. Like I could imagine something like where youve got the bird people to be allied with you, they could serve on your ships and when they increase thier battle experience, Meanwhile, lets say your race has a "shield" bonus of some sort when they level up.
1. Incentive to align yourself with other races
2. A ship advancing in both shild ability and pilot ability because of its ethnically diverse crew

On the other hand I dont like the idea about ability dwindling cause it simply means you have to keep fighting.

Maybe the leaderr type could also have some effect on battle experience.

Maybe a bit late, but still... In MoO2 ships had experience levels AND possibly Leaders. That mechanic worked well imho and created more attachements to ships, especially if you could develop your first e.g. Battleship into lategame with a Ultraelite crew (warlord, anybody :) ). I miss both: Leaders and XP. It is a historical fact that more experienced units fight better, so why keep this mechanic out? Additionally, you had buildings in MoO2 that improved the starting experience level of ship crews, so you didn't have to start them green in late game.

MoO2 is Master Game.
