Torpedoes vs Missiles
This thread is meant to have people speak of how they use these weapons, compare and talk about what they were.

I myself always liked to use Torpedoes, just because the sound and raw power of them was awesom entertainment wise. I Remember arming tons of these on my ships just because of the look of it hehe.

-As for effeciency well you would never run out of them unlike Missiles.
-They acted like direct fire weapons with certain particularities though i dont rember everything about the Proton torpedoes.

--I atleast know they would always automaticaly hit the target--

--Now i dont even know if they even use the dauntless guidance (but they have a guidance mod Anyways) system BEcause now they always miss the mark (unlike before where Proton Torpedoe always hit without any mods) without any guidance mod... it shouldnt be like this.--

--I also know the overloaded modification was Overkill but at a very high price and VERY space consumming to a ship--

Anyways i found they were awesom.

When using missiles i really enjoyed (and that should be reemplimented if not done already) was the fact that i could choose how many missiles to put per racks and how many racks to add to the ship. Because of the how many missiles per racks option I would always put as much missiles possible in one rack...The look of sending a swarm of Missiles in just one shot felt like victory.

-This added to desperate strategy since a could fill any one ship with tons of missiles shoot tons of missiles at once and run. Before the Ennemy could ever reach my ship.

-Also Missiles are capable now of doing so much damage they are really powerful, but with all these counter measures they can be rendered useless.

Even now i still Mostly use Proton Torpedoes Since i respect them, saddly without guidance systems they can only be usefull for spreaded out damage against a fleet and not for high direct dmg on specific ships.

They you have it feel free to fill this thread.

... have you even played EA4?
Torpedo = anti-base, not going to hit small ships with them very often.

Yes I'm finishing a game but i dont think Torps should be usefull only for that reason, plus i take it missiles do a very good job at destroying StarBases.

But Thank you for the feedback.

About torpedoes missing, are those ships in the gas clouds by chance?
WhatAMess May 26, 2016 @ 7:52am
Nope just without the modifcations (semi-guided) for the gas clouds i cant explain or havent seen.

This is feedback its always useful for developpers.

Usually will outfit cruisers and up with a mix of torps and missiles. Leaning more heavily towards missiles. Tops are good vs Starbase but nothing trumps missiles in the game.

So far in the game, you don't run out of missiles. In a protracted battle, your missiles fire every few seconds and eventually take down your opponent (as long as your ships remain onscreen).

To add realism, the ships should run out of these and require a supply ship to restore them.

I didn't know, I thought maybe the enemy ships were in a gas cloud. There is a great chance that they will miss or do little damage in a gas cloud. Screws up the electronics. It also means shields don't work in there.

I wasn't sure if you knew this or not and it could be why they were missing all the time.

They have a range limit like the other weapon types. It's a bit longer than beams, but not wildly so. And torpedoes have the longest range, IIRC.

I haven't used Torpedoes. I didn't line them on moo2 and now they are unguided so I line them less. I prefer my weapons to be usable in as many situations add possible. Early game I use missiles, almost exclusively. By mid game I'm a big fan of beams. They thresh the shoals of my enemies ships. Phaser point defense is also hilarious. Whole task groups can engage single flights of missiles.

Torps out range starbases / missile bases, so they are the safe way to deal with them.
The problem with torps is they are too slow to hit moving targets...

This is good information, worth taking a look, and it has an influencing effect.

Like Doombringer I use torps to abuse structures by kiting due to their range.

Pretty much. Also very good vs Titans and Battleships that tend to be too slow to avoid them

This is something I do not like. Starbases and planet base systems should out range anything a ship can mount.

Torpedoes are normally unguided meaning at long ranges they can be dodged

I must agree with fourteenfour

Starbases, battleStations and fortresses always use to out range everything( except for shuttles and missiles). It made winning a war much harder.

I've seen, many times, BattleStations destroy entire fleets. Maybe thats what Moo needs to make the game harder. Since many people seem to say the game is to easy now. The fear at striking at a planet with such fire power would add to the challenge.

As for torpedoes convering such distance, maybe giving an other good reason to arm them to your ships would be nice. Being able to destroy a StarBase with a small Torp frigate would diminish challenge.
