trouble with ground combat
First of all, I can't invade any planet without having any ships that have bombs of some kind.
(so much for capturing a colony as intact as possible). With only troop transports it doesn't even give you the option of attacking the planet.

And even when I got to the invasion screen it wouldn't allow me to deploy troops, all I could do is bomb the colony.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there something I'm missing here?

That is a new one for me. I've been invading since EA3 with only a different issue. Try reinstalling perhaps?

Perhaps you cannot invade them because there are planetary defenses intact as in Star Bases, Missile Silos?

No, I destroyed the star base and missle launcher that were defending the planet.

I should add that I was attacking a planet of a minor civ, not one of the major races.
I wonder if that had anything to do with it.

well that sucks, I hope that is one detail that gets addressed in a future update.

That's for balance purposes. Otherwise it's too easy to get 1 or 2 big colonies early on.

If they include invasions they will let them build units so it won't be easy to get their people.

Artificially disallowing invasion of a world is a stupid decision. A fat world filled with primitives is ripe for invasion. There should be no artifical protection. I mean seriously, what the heck? I mean what's the explanation? What's defending them? Unless they want to slap a guardian ship in orbit there should be nothing stopping an invasion. I understand "gameplay" argument... but really... come on. This would only even matter in MP, which no one is going to play because you can't even fight the battles anyway.

Soooo mad at the direction this game is going.

Agreed
They can add some negative modifiers for conquering of savages(x5 to assimilation time, for example), but not some magical forcefields.

Precisely.

In "A Piece of the Action" we can learn how to conquer savages when this directive is active.

Making sure, you are not trying to invade a minor race planet? They can't be invaded for some reason.
hillbillyden May 7, 2016 @ 9:12pm
Can you bio-terminate them instead of conventional bombing? I tend to just do that with the other races instead of dealing with invasion as I get all buildings intact. Of course, everyone will loathe you after you use bio weapons, but...so what? The ai is not to be feared at this point.

Not sure how Bio bombing works. I thought if there was no population after bio bombing you can't invade the planet. How do you make sure there is one population left to conquer the planet?
