Purpose of Linking to Wargaming Account?
I'm curious as to why there is the possibility to link the game to your WG account. Been playing WoT for years so I have one, and I know that linking it is not needed to play MoO, but is there any benefit for doing so? Or are any special features planned for it?

Thanks in advance for any information.

If you link the accounts, you enable the pixel ships, but I am not 100% positive about what that does... I think it's a graphics thingy to make your ships look retro or something.

AFAIK pixel ships are available to everyone now, linked or not?

But yes, pixel ships makes the ship models look like MoO1-era designs, albeit in 3D.

But why do they want us to do it, what do we get out of it, what do they get out of it? I haven't because I don't understand why they're asking me to.

This is actually no longer the case. We ran that during EA 1 as a test to make sure the system was working properly (it was the only "optional" content we had at the time), but pixel ships are now granted by default as part of the CE purchase.

We will have more info on the benefit to linking a WG account soon, but we're not ready to announce it yet. There will definitely be something, and existing account links will receive it as well, so there's no risk in missing out on something if you link now.

Ah thanks for clearing it up, I think I'm going to link my account now rather than later.

Why do you want us to do it though? Sure you're giving stuff to us but what are you getting out of it? If it were nothing the whole system simply wouldn't be a thing.

It's the way for us to know players that have a Wargaming account also own Master of Orion. Steam/GoG rightly have privacy policies that prevent them from exposing user information to us such as emails, so this is the only way we can bridge the connection between Wargaming account and Master of Orion owner.

Thanks for the honesty on getting around privacy policies. The wary part is they do exist for reasons and the carrying over punishment through games would likely make some wary (among the other more obvious reasons) though I trust that would never happen. At the same time I understand that there's more reason than that in regards to focusing marketing. I'll go ahead and link once I patch now that I got an honest awnser.

Sorry for bumping this thread, but I have a question in regards to account linking: I hadn't previously linked my account to Wargaming.net, but today I saw some references that linking is supposed to unlock something extra in the game.
Even the email confirmation I received from Wargaming.net says: "To activate the unique bonus in Master of Orion, play the game. "

Since I didn't see any in-game reference to any bonus (except for the Total Annihilation free copy, which is awesome, by the way), I was wondering if it indeed unlocks anything extra in the game, or if I missed out on anything?

thanks

I believe this was referencing Total Annihilation, as that's the perk for linking the account. It may have been poorly worded and was meant to describe the fact that the account linking takes place within the game.

Thanks for the reply. Just making sure I didn't miss out on anything. :steamhappy:

And thanks for the kind offer (Total Annihilation). It's the icing on the cake for my Collector's Edition purchase (gettting the game, MOO I-III, soundtrack, artbook, a few other extras, and now an extra game was an awesome deal for the asking price).

And now, I'm off to finally play the game! Even though I bought it on the first day it was made available back in February, I'm yet to play it for more than an hour. It was tough, but I was wanting for it to reach the "final" version. :)

Good luck with the launch. I'm hoping it manages to find a good audience, and some healthy post-release support.

Thanks for your support, TA as the perk just felt like the right thing to do, so I'm happy to hear that it's being well-received. We could have gone the other route and offered currency in Wargaming's free-to-play games, but decided it was better to give something that Steam users would get immediate benefit from.

Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them. Looking forward to hearing your feedback on how the game has progressed.

Help i got my TA code from linking my account but cant find where to download it. Steam wants me to pay their site has no link to download it. Is this free or not? If so where do i to use this 🔑 MoO gave me for Total Annihilation?

@quazarblack: In the steam client you should goto the Games -> "Activate a Product on Steam". Follow the links and it should take you to a screen where you can enter the code you where given. The game will then be added to your steam library and you can install as normal.
