No tactical combat in MP
Man, this really stinks. I hope they add the feature one day, anyone know why its not here? Seems like it should be a simple button to press before you create the game to allow or not allow tactical combat. I like having control over my fleet so when they die I know it was MY fault for issuing bad orders, but when my fleet gets annihilated using the auto resolve I have no idea what orders were issued... very frustrating.

Never use the auto resolve. The AI is a far worse admiral than you are. It will lose more than half of the combats it calls "balanced", whereas, with full control, I will win 95% of them.

I agree, but in MP it is ONLY auto resolve :(

OH! I have never tried MP mode, so I had no idea! You HAVE to use combat with auto resolve? That sucks big time!

Unfortunately yes! I am playing with a friend and just lost a battle I think I should have won if it was tactical

This is why I'm not playing this multiplayer. They need to fix this.

The game was built with this in mind. The foundational code to support this is in place. So hopefully in the future.

As to auto-resolve, I use that most of the time...as my ships are usually 60% chance or higher of winning. And oddly, most of the time with those odds, I won't lose any ship! Kind of wierd really...
I think after playing so many hours of the game, I just want to plow through the routine battles to get through the more fun late game battles.

In the late game I actually control combat with my high tech ships...it works better to control with all the advanced specials.

TBH I have no idea why they don't allow at least the option of turning it on before the game starts. Unless there is a programming issue they can't solve. Let people who want to play MP with tactical combat play it that way, and the ones that don't don't have to. Personally when my friend and I play we BOTH want tactical combat

There ARE programming issues! It is one thing to have tactical battles vs. the AI on your own computer, but fight multiplayer battles in realtime with other people on the internet is the other. To make this fair, playable and fun you'll need a decent netcode to prevent lags and cheating etc. So i guess the devs working on that already but it isn't finished yet (tbh programming a online-multiplayer game is sth. different to a single player one).

They could have made a compromise and let the players in MP games fight the battles vs. AI opponents in tactical mode while battles vs. human players would only have auto-resolve avaliable. It would be a very easy to handle scenario but for some reason the devs decided against it. So actually there is just auto-resolve for every battle in MP.

@Messi - I responded to the WHY in the "multiplayer feedback v49.3" thread (in the 'Feedback and Suggestions' forum) where you also posted this question. Relaying bits of info I've previously seen posted by the developers.

So, I am OK with that. However, I wish there was more information about how auto resolve works. Do my ships simulate smart decisions based off of the weapons/tech on my ships? or do I need to load out my ships differently than SP?

In single player I am losing battles using autoresolve that I can win if I play them out myself it seems.

i assume autoresolve does same thing in MP as when you press Take Command and let AI control in single player, so you can observe behaviour in single player.

Funny enough, this is where turn based combat would come in handy.

See that's another question I have, does the auto resolve factor in the specials? I just now read that last line you wrote lol

If that is true, I am OK with auto resolve.
