It has flaws, but it also has new mechanics to learn and you can get good at it. I like it. I don't love it like MoO2.
This is no moo 3 and sure as heck is no moo 1 & 2
I'd listen to the first post about this game being very casual and not having as much depth as MOO3. It's more of a simple mixture of the first two games without being much like either of them, although it does have the starlanes and realtime combat of 3.
Thankfully, MOO is more of a reboot of MOO2. It intentionally avoids most MOO3 "innovations," besides the tactical combat.
If you liked MOO2 then I say get this then. At least combat you may like. On a smaller scale than MOO3 but you may just like it then. If you have anymore quesitons please ask will answer as best as I can.
The AI, alas, is inept in many respects, so you need to play on extra hard in order to be challenged..
and i think there was potentiel, sadly the game was unfinished, they tried to hard to create something bigger and more innovating and it led to failure, but here are a fiew good ideas.
Race Types: Instead of putting basic races they created gene types races, like Humanoid,Reptilian,Cybernetic, Gaseous (Wow did i like the concept of gaseous races) and more. With this, they added many really interesting races like the eoladi
The 3d map of the stars, i thought was awesom design idea.
You could have more then the total number of races against the ai, because they had thought of factions. Their could be two factions of the same race, wether it was because of a rebellion or it just plane started like that.
The Galatic counsel.... awesome. There actually was diplomatic actions that could be done. They had created a bill system meant to create laws for the races linked to the counsel. Now that was brilliant. It actually gave incentive to delcare war on other races.
Gouvernment type. You could be different types of gouvernment meant to give different advantages.
The Opressometer Was incredibly well thought. The more you opressed the better the sp defense.
Outpost colonies that had the potentiel to become a colonized planet through migration. Careful you could start immigration wars, meaning two races fighting for a planet through migration.
Appart from these thing Moo3 had so much potentiel it was a really sophisticated game.
Thing is it didnt work out that well it was to much to chew on. So yes it became the worst of the franchise because of so many incomplete assets of the game. All of those new incomnplete features created so much complications and killed the game.
SO yes Moo3 had SO much potentiel but the ideas dev tried to implemant just made thing to complicated. So Moo3 could have been another super classic, but as i said it was just to much to handle to short notice as the devs had no choice but to release it because of to much pressure. They should have never announced the arrival of Moo3 until the were sure they were close to completion, or atleast beta stage.
Many fascinating good ideas, but incomplete and to complicated. To bad, As much as i wanted a remake of Moo2, I think a remake of Moo3 with many zounds of bug fixes, completed ideas and a less complicated economy system could have been good also.
But now with CTS... unsophisticated game play and extreme shallowness just breaks my heart. Would say Cts simplicity isn't so bad but it breaks the whole concept of Moo games
Edit: with the mods out there Moo 3 is a better game than Moo 2, they really had to work fixing bugs and ctd issues though.
I believe moo3 was great without any mods. I never knew any existed. I might have to look into getting the mods.
Ive been looking at some streams and videos of this game, and so far Im not impressed. I was looking at it now because its on sale, but I dont think I will get it even with a sale. I really liked the complexity of moo3 and this game just seems to lack that. This game seems to lack... (for lack of a better word).. soul.
Its unfortunate, but I think this moo reboot may have been a failure.
It's very simple compared to Moo3, much closer to Moo2 with realtime-pause combat.
Moo3 was mostly horribly buggy without the mods, with mods most of the bigger issues got fixed ...
